Labrada Lean Body Meal Replacement, can this one supplement replace all the real food?

Former IFBB Pro and Mr. Universe (1985) Lee Labrada owns the supplement company Labrada Nutrition which is headquartered in Houston, Texas. “Lean body” is their meal replacement product which is supposed to deliver on supplying everything you need to reach your fitness goals.

Lean Body is packed with quality protein, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and a fiber blend for intestinal health.

Lee Labrada stands by his products with the motto of “If it’s on the label, it’s in the bottle”. We have no reason to believe this is misleading as Labrada is a big name in bodybuilding and has produced great products for years. However, we did some testing of the Chocolate flavor and would like to offer a personal review of Lean Body.

Let’s start things off with the pros and cons of the product:

Lean Body Pros

  • Tastes pretty good
  • Reasonable price to serving ratio
  • Great nutritional value

Lean Body Cons

  • Artificial Sweeteners
  • Does not supply all necessary vitamins and nutrients
  • Cholesterol and Sodium is a little high

What Do You Get With Lean Body?

Macronutrients and general nutritional value:

Each serving (2 scoops) supplies 290 calories, 35 grams of protein, 21 grams of carbohydrates and 7 grams of fat (2g saturated fat). Lean Body contains 5 grams of sugar per serving along with 7 grams of fiber. The cholesterol is a bit high for one shake at 24% of your daily intake and the sodium as well, supplying 17% of your daily intake.

Now, the other great benefits of using Lean Body are the sufficient supply of vitamins and minerals, which are very important when considering a meal replacement. The essential vitamins (D, A, C, B12, B6, E) all supply 35% of your recommended daily intake. You’ll also get 50% Magnesium, 60% Iron, 60% Calcium, 35% Iodine 40% Zinc and 17% Potassium.

Let’s discuss the ingredients… Lean Body consists of Whey Concentrate and Isolate (Isolate is great for those with stomach issues) with Glutamine peptides for recovery. The EFA Plex consists of essential fatty acids, derived from Sunflower Oil, MCT(Medium Chain Triglycerides) Oil, Flaxseed Oil, and Borage Oil.

Many people are not fans of artificial sweeteners but they do really help with providing an enjoyable taste from most meal replacements. Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium are the main artificial sweeteners along with some cocoa for that chocolate flavoring.

Let’s discuss the Fiber Plex added in the product; Lean Body includes a fiber complex which consists of Polydextrose, Fiber Sole 2 Fiber, Cellulose Gum, Oat Flour and Rice Bran. This is supposed to help with intestinal health which is a great addition for users.

My Personal Review of the Lean Body Meal Replacement

Quality of Lean Body – 7/10

The quality of the product is very good and it supplies most necessary nutrients for an acceptable meal replacement shake. 290 calories per serving are pretty good if you’re not bulking but of course, you can add more ingredients to it for a more calorically dense shake. But it is called Lean Body for a reason

Now, the fructose, corn solids, Sucralose, and Acesulfame Potassium may turn some people off from wanting to use the product consistently because it’s not exactly the healthiest or most natural option. But it’s not a huge deal either…

I personally am not a big fan of artificial flavors and ingredients but the quality of the main nutritional ingredients and vitamins make it worth supplementing with when real food is too much of a hassle to prepare.

The sodium and cholesterol values are a little high, plus the product does not supply all necessary vitamins and nutrients like Omega 3’s, Vitamin K and Chromium. But this is not a deal breaker as Lean Body does provide a pretty sufficient amount of the other essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals we need to maintain good health.

The Potassium is a little low for a “nutritionally complete supplement” (585 milligrams) seeing as the U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends at least 4,700 milligrams per day but oh well, just eat more bananas! (1)

Overall though, one cannot complain about a product which does deliver as a good meal replacement option.

Price of Lean Body – 7.5/10

Considering you get 16 servings for around $31, it’s a pretty good deal. This equates to about $1.96 per serving, which you can’t really argue about (It’s cheap enough)!

The nutritional value is well worth the price for any meal replacement, and especially this one.

Taste – 7/10

The taste was very acceptable and tasted like a typical chocolate flavored meal replacement. It was actually pretty good! Of course, you have a little of the artificial taste but it’s OK with me. A lot of people complain about some of the flavors and this is why I chose a basic flavor.

Final Thoughts On Lean Body Meal Replacement

It’s a great product for a decent price so if you’re into saving money while getting a quality product, Lean Body is a good buy. Although it may be lacking in a few very minor details like certain vitamins and Omega 3’s, it’s still worth trying regardless of your fitness goals.

No product is perfect but Lean Body is a very acceptable choice for supplying your muscle gain and fat loss endeavors.
