Powerlifter Tears Quad OF THE BONE Squatting
You can file this under the “not for the faint of hearted” category because it’s pretty damn nasty. So, Brandon Allen is as hardcore as hardcore gets. Super-heavyweight powerlifter, riddled with tattoos and sporting a bitchin’ “Santa” beard. He is also an elite powerlifter, who regularly does +2200lbs totals in powerlifting meets-both raw and equipped.
This guy is such a badass powerlifter that his 2018 total placed him just above The Mountain, in the +300lbs weight class, who murdered everyone in his first powerlifting meet.
Above one of the strongest humans on the planet who did 1045lbs/474kg on a very wobbly bar which took out nearly half the guys at the Arnold Strongman contest, including his main competition, Brian Shaw. However, injuries are a part of all sports and powerlifting is no exception to that rule. Especially when you take into consideration the insane weights powerlifters move, it should be a miracle every time a powerlifter DOESN’T get injured.
Brandon was enjoying a manly and fairly intense squatting session at the “Filthy Powerhouse Gym” as a preparation for a powerlifting meet, “Kern Open” to be exact, and everything seemed normal. Angry metal music was blasting, everyone was hyping everyone, it was business as usual and everything was going according to plan. Brandon was probably envisioning himself destroying another powerlifting meet when disaster struck. Right as he was squatting back up with 925 lbs on his back, he felt a pop in his right knee.

Amazingly he found the physical and mental strength to finish the rep and rack the bar back. Seconds later, he zoned back into his body and the reality accompanied by excruciating pain hit him like a bolt of lighting. The interesting part is that this wasn’t even his heaviest squat. Back in October at an event in Australia, he squatted 1008lbs and made it look fairly easy.
Brandon wasted no time in getting his knee fixed and went right into surgery as soon as he could and he is already in the recovery stage.
WARNING: below will be the video of his knee post surgery with stitches and (seemingly) duct-tape barely holding his right quad in one piece…so if you are squeamish, you should just scroll down a bit further.
No one is immune to injuries, they happen all the time- even to the best guys. We are all made out of flesh and bone and have our natural(or in Brandon Allen’s case, supernatural) limits.
Our bodies are designed to wear out and break down. However, what separates the winner from losers is the rebuilding the phase. Will you let an injury break you mentally or just make you work hard to get back to the top?
Look at Calum Von Moger, he probably had the suckiest 2018 in all of the fitness. First, he tore his biceps doing tandem biceps curls then just as he slowly started his comeback phase, another setback struck.
He re-tore his biceps and blew out his knee while trying some rope descending of a cliff. The re-injury set him back for the rest of 2018 and forced him to chill while his body heals. He is now finally, getting back to his old gains and is looking as big as ever. Weak moments don’t define you, it’s how you deal with them that defines you.
