It is impossible not to feel your anxiety spike when watching this crazy feat. You can see the concentration on the face of Eishiro Murakami, as the bar trembles under the weights. He slowly and deliberately steps forwards, managing to plant it on the rack. This is scary, when one considers how easy it is for tragic accidents to happen in this sport.
This recent string of unbelievable performances was started in May, with Murakami attending the All Japan competition. Here, he broke several national records, including a 188kg/414lb deadlift, 226kg/498lb clean and jerk, and a 414kg/913lb total. Here is a video of his lift at that event.
It will be very interesting to see Eishiro Murakami if he manages to compete at the 2020 Olympics. If he does represent Japan in any of the events, he will most certainly be one of the top competitors. However until then, you can follow his progress on Instagram. Here, he states that he intends to make it to a 400kg squat. So with that in mind, it will be easy to keep track of his steps along the way to that goal.
