Mark Felix may not have made it to the finals of the 2020 World’s Strongest Man, but he is not done competing. When the other athletes complete the Hercules Hold on Sunday, he will be joining them in an attempt to secure a new world record.
At the ripe age of 54-years old, Felix was the oldest among the 25 athletes to compete at this year’s WSM. He was a part of the second group of competitiors to participate in the qualifiers, but did not have the best performance. He would wind up in last place for his group after the two days of qualifiers, failing to make it to the finals of the competition.

However just because Mark Felix is not competing against the other strongman in the finals, does not mean that we have seen the last of him at the World’s Strongest Man. He revealed that when the athletes go to compete in the Hercules Hold on Sunday, the first event of the last day of competition, he will be joining them. Although he will not be competing for the chance to be called the World’s Strongest Man, he will be going for a world record instead.
This is an event that Felix already holds a world record in, and has broken his own record on two additional occasions. The most recent of these came last September, when he held pillars of 160kg in weight, lasting for a time of 1:32. It should be noted that the pillars at the Hercules Hold event in the WSM Finals will weigh a little less than that, at about 158.8kg.
While it was certainly a disappointing result that Felix could not make it to the World’s Strongest Man Finals, if he were to leave the event with a new world record, that would be a suitable consolation prize for the elite strongman. He is already incredibly inspirational, simply for being the oldest Competitior in the event, but to use his freakishly strong grip to set another world record at his age would be the stuff of legends.
The Hercules Hold will be the first event to take place as part of the final day of World’s Strongest Man events. When Mark Felix attempts this record, he will be looking to surpass his previous time of 92 seconds, all while doing one of the most iconic events in the sport.
