Alexis Jones has entered the 2024 season in style, managing to crush +84KG Raw Bench Press and Deadlift Unofficial IPF World Records at a recent competition. Jones reached that achievement on her way to the gold medal at the 2024 AMP (Powerlifting America) Classic Open Nationals, which took place on March 14-16, in Reno, Nevada.

Alexis Jones’ 2024 AMP Classic Open Nationals Performance Overview

Alexis Jones was in a direct battle for first place with Bonica Brown, who has won multiple IPF World Championships in the past. However, Alexis came out on top with a remarkable 38.5-kilogram (84.9-pound) margin, thus qualifying for the 2024 IPF World Championships. So, Alexis will be the one who represents the USA at the biggest competition in the world.

Squat

Alexis Jones successfully completed all three of her squat attempts, but her heaviest one was significantly lighter than her Competition PR. Still, it set her up pretty well for the remainder of the competition.

  • 227.5 kilograms (501.6 pounds)
  • 247.5 kilograms (545.6 pounds)
  • 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds)

Bench Press

Alexis Jones’ heaviest bench press at the competition came out to 166 kilograms (366 pounds), which turned out to be heavier than the current IPF World Record by 1-kilogram (2.2 pounds). Interestingly, Amelie Mierger set that record just days prior at the 2024 EPF European Championships.

  • 152.5 kilograms (336.2 pounds)
  • 160 kilograms (352.7 pounds)
  • 166 kilograms (366 pounds) — +84KG Unofficial IPF World Record

Deadlift

Alexis Jones secured the other unofficial record with her final deadlift attempt. However, before that, she first opened up with a pull of 232.5 kilograms (512.6 pounds) and a second attempt of 247.5 kilograms (545.6 pounds). That was enough to secure her the win at the competition, and allowed her to go for the record on her final attempt with much less pressure.

So, Alexis Jones decided to go all out and made a huge jump to 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds) on her third attempt. Having perfected the conventional stance and mixed grip technique, Alexis only needed some chalk and a lifting belt to take on the massive lift. Sure enough, she completed the deadlift quite comfortably, only slowing down a bit while reaching lockout.

*The current +84KG IPF Deadlift World Record is held by Natalie Laalaai, who locked out 268-kg (690.8-lb) at the 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

  • 232.5 kilograms (512.6 pounds)
  • 247.5 kilograms (545.6 pounds)
  • 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds) — +84KG Unofficial IPF World Record

Total — 698.5 kilograms (1,539.9 pounds)

Alexis Jones has been competing in powerlifting since 2019, but has spent the majority of her career in the USAPL. However, this year she decided to switch to the IPF, where she will have the ability to battle for the most prestigious title in the World. It seems that the IPF World Champion title is all that she is missing, as she has won 13 sanctioned competitions out of 16 in which she participated.
