Though he is now thriving, Schwarzenegger remains diligent about protecting his heart, prioritizing a healthy diet and regular exercise as key components of his ongoing care.
In his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, Schwarzenegger consistently advocates for strategies to prevent heart disease and promote overall health and well-being. “The Incredible Benefits of 1-Minute Of Exercise”
“If you want to transform the appearance of your body, consistent effort in the gym and the kitchen will deliver the best results. But if you’re going to protect your body against disease and improve overall health, a little bit of effort goes a long way.”
Schwarzenegger explained that just one minute per day of intense activity can help protect you against the leading cause of death, which is heart disease.
“Scientists found that short bursts of intense activity in your daily life — as little as one minute per day — can help protect you from the leading cause of death.”
“And we’re not even talking about the exercises you perform in the gym. An international research team studied more than 22,000 sedentary individuals over an average of 8 years and tracked daily activities with wearable devices.”
After following sedentary individuals, the study showed that just one minute a day of intense activity, such as running up a flight of stairs, reduced the risk of heart failure by 40 percent, lowered the risk of heart attack by 33 percent, and decreased the chances of a cardiovascular event by 30 percent.
“Those who performed at least one minute of short, intense activity — such as sprinting up the stairs or running for a bus — saw a 40 percent reduced risk of heart failure, a 33 percent lower risk of heart attack, and a 30 percent lower likelihood of a major cardiovascular event.”
These stats are greatly improved when the duration of intense activity is increased.
“Those who did 3.5 minutes of daily intense activity were 45 percent less likely to experience a major cardiovascular event, 51 percent less likely to have a heart attack, and 67 percent less likely to develop heart failure.”
There was a slight indication that a sudden burst in physical activity may benefit women more than men. However, both genders yield significant results.
“While it’s just one study, the most recent research suggests that short, intense bursts of activity might offer even more health protection for women than men. However, prior studies show that it’s beneficial for all genders.”
Schwarzenegger reminds his followers that even the smallest actions can have a powerful impact on overall health and well-being.
“This study challenges the idea that you must dedicate hours to structured exercise programs to maintain your health. It offers a realistic and practical solution for busy people, parents, or anyone who struggles to find time for fitness.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s advice doesn’t stop there. He has previously shared six daily habits that can reduce the risk of heart disease by 80%, including simple tips like eating plant-based whole foods and getting at least six hours of sleep each night.

As a 74 year old retired Physical therapist, and avid weight trainer,I truly believe the change that a minimal level of exercise, above a sedentary life ,is greater than activity from a moderate exercise level to a vigerous level.I often in instruct those new to exercise that any activity is so much better than none at all.
