Ashton Rouska has been very busy in recent times, but he has always managed to continue pushing the standard in powerlifting. This was once again the case at the 2025 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships on January 26th, where Ashton excelled despite making his debut. Competing as a 105-kilogram weight class athlete, Ashton managed to squat 375 kilograms (826.7 pounds) raw, thus setting a new IPF World Record.
Ashton Rouska made sure to set a decent foundation first, opening up with a 335-kilogram (738.5-pound) squat, which also served as his final warm-up. After that, Ashton loaded 371 kilograms (817.9 pounds) on the barbell, just enough to chip the IPF World Record at the time. Having successfully completed the attempt, Ashton broke the record and relieved some pressure off his shoulders.
Ashton’s success in the previous attempt allowed him to take a risk on his final squat. In turn, he increased the weight to 375 kilograms (826.7 pounds). His walkout with the bar looked a bit shaky, but his lift was more comfortable. Still, considering that it was 4.5 kilograms (9.9 pounds) above the previous World Record, Ashton had to put in a lot of effort to lock it out. However, he is used to performing under high-pressure situations, which is why he prevailed once again.

Ashton Rouska has had a lot to think about recently: getting married, his PhD, and expecting a child. Moreover, he also suffered a severe pec tear during his prep for the competition. It clearly did not recover well enough, as Rouska opted to lift much lighter on the bench press. Moreover, his pec tear seemed to have an impact on his deadlift ability, as he failed his second and third attempts. It is worth noting that even in less-than-ideal circumstances, Ashton still managed to set a new Squat World Record.

Ashton Rouska is one of the few athletes that transitioned from the USAPL to the IPF last year. It did not take long for him to accommodate himself, as he became the 2024 IPF World Champion. Unfortunately, his pec injury did not allow him to present himself in the best light possible at the 2025 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, but he still made sure to impress everyone on the squat. Ashton now has over 50 sanctioned powerlifting appearances made, with the majority of them resulting in a win for him.
