The fitness community faces another loss after the passing of Park Seung-hyun, a respected Korean bodybuilder and YouTuber. His brother confirmed the news in a recent Instagram post shared on January 6, 2025, revealing that Park Seung-hyun’s death was due to health complications.

Park Seung-hyun amassed a massive following on YouTube in 2019 after openly confessing to his misuse of steroids. This admission sparked a movement online aimed at educating others regarding the dangers and abuse of steroids in sports.

Seung-hyun’s commitment to change was apparent when he voluntarily reported his violations to authorities, reinforcing his role in the push for a more transparent and responsible fitness culture. He later revealed that he received a suspended indictment in November of 2019.

However, despite the attention he garnered through social media, Park Seung-hyun revealed in a YouTube video posted just three months before his death that he was struggling with depression, leading him to seek professional help.

“I have been battling depression and receiving psychiatric treatment. Financial difficulties have arisen because I haven’t been able to continue my YouTube activities. I feel lonely even though I shouldn’t. I will find my way back to myself and return someday” Park Seung Hyun shared.

In addition to being candid about his mental health struggles, Park Seung-hyun’s latest Instagram post conveyed that he was still navigating through difficult times.

“Weight just dropped at 110kg
Because I don’t try to eat…

Both passion and goals are gone
Feeling very lonely..” He wrote

His final post came just two days before his older brother confirmed his passing, who requested prayers and privacy for the family during this difficult time.

“At 3:51 p.m. on Jan. 5, my younger brother Seung-hyun passed away due to health reasons. Our parents are deeply heartbroken, so we will not be receiving visitors at the memorial hall. Please pray for his peaceful rest in your hearts.”

Park Seung-hyun hasn’t been the only notable bodybuilder to lose his life at a young age. Of late, Brazilian bodybuilder Jose Mateus Correia Silva met his untimely fate at only 28 years old. He reportedly collapsed at the gym following his workout and died due to a massive cardiac arrest event.

The sudden loss of Park Seung-hyun has led to an overwhelming show of support from his friends and fans, all offering condolences and well wishes to his family during this difficult time. Having always pushed his limits inside the gym, Park Seung-hyun was a great role model for young men who aim to venture into bodybuilding. We at Fitness Volt extend our deepest condolences to his friends and loved ones during this period of grief.
