The bodybuilding community has unfortunately said goodbye to another aspiring talent. In reports shared across local news agencies on November 28, 2024, it was confirmed that bodybuilder Jose Mateus Correia Silva died at 28 years old. Cardiac arrest is suspected as the cause of death.
Jose Mateus Correia Silva was a well-known bodybuilder and businessman from Águas Claras, Brazil, who tragically passed away on Friday, October 22, at the age of 28. Silva was a prominent figure in his local fitness community, having founded several food supplement stores, along with a nutrition line and a fitness brand.
Silva was especially recognized for his participation in bodybuilding competitions, placing ninth in the Men’s Physique class at the 2018 South American Championships and taking 11th in the Men’s Bodybuilding Class at the 2017 Arnold Classic South America.

On the evening of his death, Silva was training at the gym when he suddenly began feeling unwell and collapsed. He was promptly rushed to the nearby Fire Department by a friend, where first responders confirmed he was suffering from cardiac arrest and performed CPR for over an hour. Despite their best efforts, Silva was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
Friends and family have shared their heartfelt tributes on social media, honoring Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s legacy in the fitness industry. This includes his brother, Tiago Correia, who posted an emotional message and photo.
“You were incredible. Thank you for so much. I love you,” he wrote.

His brother also revealed that Correia had no preexisting health problems and seemed to be in good health before his sudden passing. He shared his gratitude to all the individuals who attempted to save his brother’s life.
“I want to thank the entire team that tried to save his life. They were all very professional and provided all the support.”
Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s funeral was held on Sunday, attracting hundreds of friends and family looking to celebrate his life. His brother Tiago Correia referred to the service as a “beautiful farewell” and revealed that the chapel was so full not everyone could fit inside.
While it has yet to be confirmed what caused Silva’s sudden heart attack, many have speculated that it is linked to PEDs. As of late, the fitness and bodybuilding communities have seen an influx in young deaths, including the sudden loss of Panamanian bodybuilder Johanna Perez, who similar to Silva, passed unexpectedly following her 35th birthday.
With the death toll of young bodybuilders continuing to rise, many are calling for a change regarding steroid protocols.
