The 2020 CrossFit Open has officially begun! Rogue made the announcement today, for what the workout will be for the first week of the event.

The 2020 CrossFit Open will demonstrate athletes of all levels putting their skills to the test. The highest level of those athletes will go on to compete at the 2020 CrossFit Games. There will be some changes to the way the Games will work, all of which you can find here.

However, after much anticipation, the beginning of the CrossFit Open is finally upon us. Today starts the first of five straight weeks of exercises, with new workouts being posted each week. Athletes will have until the following Monday of each week, to submit their videos, in order for them to count.

The live announcement took place tonight, featuring CrossFit stars Rich Froning and  CrossFit Games YouTube channel posted this video, describing the workout involved in the 20.1.

The first week of workouts are as follows:

Ten Rounds For Time Of:

  • 8 Ground To Overheads – 95lb (men) / 65lb (women)
  • 10 Bar-facing Burpees
  • Time cap: 15 minutes

This is the equipment needed to complete the workout:

  • Barbell(s)
  •  Standard bumper plates (18-inch diameter) to load barbell for burpee
  • Collars to secure the plates on the barbell
  • Plates to load to the appropriate weight for your division

In addition to breaking down each workout, a full guide was released to explain all the workout’s proper form. As a part of the new changes to the CrossFit Open, there is new wording as to what constitutes a minor penalty. Therefore it is important to be familiar with the proper form for each exercise. Additionally, you can find variations for each workout there, depending on your division.

The 2020 CrossFit Open brings with it plenty of excitement among fans of the sport. With it’s growing legitimacy, it will be exciting to see how this year’s competition will differ from past ones.
