Emma Lawson just recently turned 20-years-old, but she has already been competing at the highest level of CrossFit for a very long time. In turn, she was expected to be one of the standout athletes in the 2025 CrossFit Games season as well. Unfortunately, as per her recent Instagram story, Emma Lawson will not compete in the upcoming 2025 CrossFit Open or the remainder of the Games season.

Emma Lawson has put a lot of thought into making the decision to sit out the season. In turn, she ultimately decided to prioritize her health and wellbeing. Namely, Emma is carrying a nagging injury that would not only prevent her from giving her best effort but could also put the rest of her season at risk.

Emma Lawson has not revealed the specifications of her injury or any further details. She has, however, stated that her body needs time to recover, which is definitely the right step to take for such a young prospect.

“This would have been my 7th year signing up for the CrossFit Open but unfortunately, a nagging injury is going to prevent me from being able to give it my best effort without putting the rest of my season at risk. I know the right decision for me is to take the time my body needs to heal.”

Emma Lawson has been competing from an extremely young age, spending the first few years of her career in the teen division. She came third in the Girls 14-15 division at the 2019 CrossFit Games. The following year was even better for her, having won the Girls 14-15 CrossFit Open and Quarterfinals. Unfortunately, there were no Games that year for her division because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Emma Lawson managed to win the Girls 16-17 division at the CrossFit Games, thus making a breakthrough. She then moved up to the Open age class, where she has been competing since. Emma’s competed in three CrossFit Games since, with her best finish being second-place in 2023.

Although Emma Lawson will miss out on the 2025 CrossFit Games season, she still has other plans for the year. Specifically, Emma plans to compete at the World Fitness Project, which is set to start in May. This gives her a few more weeks to recover from her injury and get back to her best.

Emma Lawson will not be the only elite athlete missing out on the 2025 CrossFit Games season. Others who have decided to sit out are the 2x Fittest Woman on Earth, Annie Thorisdottir, and Patrick Vellner. Both of them made the decision based on their feelings toward the organization and partially because of last year’s tragic passing of Lazar Đukić. On the other hand, Emma Lawson withdrew from the season because of an injury.
