“Say your prayers and eat your vitamins” — Hulk Hogan truly represented what the 1980s were all about. Taking to YouTube, exercise scientist Dr. Mike Israetel examined the diet, training, and steroids used by the Pro wrestling star throughout his legendary career, offering insights into his practices.
“What we’re going to do today, we’re going to look into his training, we’re going to look into his diet, we’re going to look into his supplements, I think? To the extent that it’s legal and we’re going to be rendering you exercise scientist-sort-of advice.”
With extensive knowledge of workout mechanics and how they affect the body, Dr. Mike Israetel shares his expertise with fans on social media. He often discusses a broad range of topics, such as how to get jacked or whether drinking diet soda will cause weight gain. However, some of his more entertaining works include breaking down the training techniques of celebrities and well-known figures in the fitness industry.

In a recent YouTube video, Dr. Mike Israetel attempts to provide some insights on Hulk Hogan’s diet, training, and steroid practices. First, Dr. Israetel took a look at Hogan’s potential steroid use at the height of his career.
“It’s really the steroids that helped him [not physical therapy],” shares Dr. Israetel. “Hell yeah [after hearing Hogan used growth hormone], he must be hurt all the time.”
Next, Dr. Israetel examined some of the ways Hogan trained his biceps.
“Other than exercise to failure and well all of these have nuances, this is a fucking great list of recommendations.
So basically, pick the weight you can lift with a full range of motion, take that weight to failure with the correct form, and if you can do that for however many reps you’re looking for, then you have the right weight in your hands. Man, Hulk fucking snuck up on me with that one. Huge respect.”
Behind-the-neck pull-ups served as Hogan’s next exercise, and Dr. Israetel was overly impressed with his intensity.
“Folks, two things; one, if you don’t look like this eye-wise during training, you al il bitch. You need to up your intensity by a thousand. Second of all, he’s doing behind-the-neck pull-ups. Holy shit.”
“Very effective exercise. Line of pull-wise, it doesn’t stress the lats anymore, probably a little less to be completely honest. If your shoulders are cool with it, give it a shot. If they are not cool with it, don’t give it a shot.”
Israetel moved on by examining Hogan’s barbell curl form next:
“This isn’t terrible technique. All isometric, stop, with 135, that is tough. Really tough. He is fucking absurdly strong.”
During incline dumbbell bench presses, Dr. Israetel gave his thoughts on Hogan’s execution and technique.
“Hey, that’s good range of motion. Those look like real weights. Maybe?”
For the grand finale, Dr. Israetel looked at some of Hogan’s dietary choices.
“This is the most honest fitness shit I’ve ever heard in my life. ‘Like what did you guys do in the 80s for fitness?’ He’s like, ‘I don’t know steroids, lifting, and beer.’ Oh, ‘Did you have sex with any strippers?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, all the time.’ ‘plus ‘did I mention cocaine?’
Before and after wrestling matches, Hogan consumed three Miller Lites and two Tylenol. Hogan says his ‘post-match’ meal was 12 Miller Lites.
“Wrestling is fucked up man. Three Miller Lites to get you in that party atmosphere, there’s hydration and carbohydrates in there and the Tylenol to make the pain go away and the alcohol to make the pain go away.”
In the past, Dr. Mike Israetel has critiqued other famous figures on their workout regimens, with five-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead among them. When taking a closer look at Cbum’s upper body training, Israetel acknowledged that he maintained good form but noticed his routine was a little redundant.
Another popular personality that Dr. Mike Israetel put under the microscope was Brian Johnson, better known as Liver King. However, Israetel was having none of it when he went through Liver King’s ancestral tenants, especially in regards to him coming off steroids.
“Liver King looks like this still means he hasn’t come off of fucking shit. Those vials are probably empty ones that he just threw away. He’s got more vials in the fridge and in the fucking back compartment and that’s just going to be how it is.”
Aside from his humor and wit, Dr. Mike Israetel boasts an unbelievable amount of knowledge on all fitness-related topics. Taking a close look at Hogan’s routine, it’s safe to say he has a newfound respect for the wrestling legend.
