The 2024 Strongest Man On Earth competition is taking place on August 17-18 in Loveland, Colorado. The first day of the competition brought in a plethora of excitement, especially in the Keg Toss event. Most notably, following an impressive performance, Hafthor Bjornsson managed to throw a 15-kilogram (33-pound) Keg over a height of 7.77 meters (25-ft 6-in) for a new World Record.
The Keg Toss was definitely expected to be one of the most exciting events of the 2024 Strongest Man On Earth, since multiple athletes showcased incredible results during their preparation for the competition. Well, it definitely lived up to the hype, mostly due Hafthor Bjornsson, who set a new World Record.
In order to reach World Record height, Hafthor had to perform multiple rounds of Keg Tosses through which the beam gradually increased in height. Well, although other athletes utilized all three attempts in most rounds, Hafthor needed just one toss to clear the beam in each of the rounds.
Both the power and the trajectory of the toss had to be perfect in order to secure the achievement. However, Hafthor Bjornsson made it look easy and elegant, putting his greatness on full display. It also secured some extremely valuable points and improved Hafthor’s overall standings.

The previous Keg Toss World Record stood at 7.76 meters. Interestingly, that height was achieved by three men at the 2024 World’s Strongest Man competition. Those men were Wesley Derwinsky, Tom Stoltman, and Mitchell Hooper. Before them, Brian Shaw was the one who held the record for multiple years, having achieved a height of 7.75 meters in 2021.
Well, just as the three men chipped Brian Shaw’s record by 1 centimeter, Hafthor Bjornsson has now done the same. However, it is important to note that Hafthor’s keg went far above the beam, but only the height at which the beam is set is recognized as the World Record.
Hafthor Bjornsson was the favorite to break the Keg Toss World Record, having unofficially exceeded it in training weeks prior to the compensation. To be specific, Hafthor threw a 15.5-kilogram (34.1-pound) Keg for a height of 8 meters (26-ft 3-in). He seemed capable of repeating the feat at the 2024 Strongest Man On Earth, but presumably decided to preserve his energy for the remaining events.
The Keg Toss was also Hafthor Bjornsson’s second event win on day one, as he won the raw deadlift event convincingly as well. He locked out a 450-kilogram (992-pounds) deadlift on his second attempt with nothing but a lifting belt and lifting straps, which proved to be enough for the win. Hafthor had one attempt remaining, but decided not to go for it since it would have not made any difference for him.

The only weakness that Hafthor Bjornsson has shown at the 2024 Strongest Man On Earth competition is his overhead pressing. The long-lasting effects of his gruesome pec tear have not subsided yet and it is reflecting on his results. Other than that, Hafthor is always among the top performers as seen by his new Keg Toss World Record.
