In the opinion of many, Jesus Olivares is the best powerlifter in the world currently, which he once again backed up with a huge 426-kilogram (939.2-pound) raw deadlift personal record. The amazing lift came during one of Jesus’ recent workouts, and he shared it with everyone on his Instagram. It brought up a lot of excitement, especially since Jesus will soon compete at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
The exact date for the competition is set for February 10th. It will feature 12 elite men and 12 elite women, all of whom will battle for the title and a piece of the biggest prize pool ever seen in a powerlifting competition.
Despite all doubts, Jesus Olivares won last year’s ‘IPF Sheffield’ and is looking to defend his title this year as well. So, he is going all out in his training sessions, which has resulted in quite a few personal records for him.
Jesus Olivares has always been a great deadlifter, but his grip was not strong enough to keep up with his strength. However, he has put in a lot of work and made significant progress, as seen by his 426-kilogram (939.2-pound) pull. To achieve it, Jesus only wore a lifting belt while using the conventional stance and a mixed grip as the technique of his choice.

Apart from chasing the title, Jesus Olivares will also be looking to break some World Records at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. Most notably, it now seems that he will demolish the deadlift record, as his new PR is 16 kilograms (35.3 pounds) heavier than the one that is currently standing.
The +120KG Deadlift IPF World Record is also held by Jesus, as he managed to lock out 410 kilograms (903.9 pounds) at the 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
The deadlifts are not the only lift that Jesus Olivares is making progress on. Instead, he has managed to set a new raw bench press PR of 280 kilograms (617.3 pounds) towards the end of last year as well. So, Jesus is definitely on track to improve his Total and thus break his own All-Time World Record as well.
Moreover, shortly after his recent 426-kilogram (939.2-pound) deadlift, Jesus also shared a 460-kilogram (1.014.1-pound) raw squat. Although it is slightly below his PR, Jesus could outperform his previous best at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
Jesus Olivares has not yet competed in 2024, but his overall career consists of 21 sanctioned powerlifting appearances and 12 victories. He is also a consecutive 3x IPF World Champion, World Record holder, and one of the all-time greats in powerlifting.
