Jesus Olivares has made his first official appearance of the year at the 2026 AMP (Powerlifting America) Open Nationals, which took place on March 5-8 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He competed in the +120-kilogram weight class, where he put up an incredible performance to claim gold. Moreover, Olivares achieved a 417.5-kilogram (920.4-pound) Raw Deadlift, with which he set a new American Record and unofficially exceeded the IPF World Record.
Jesus Olivares came into the deadlift session following a couple of very successful lifts on the squat and the bench press. So, he opened up at 375 kilograms (826.7 pounds), which he completed with ease. As a result, he made a big jump to 400 kilograms (881.8 pounds) for his second attempt. After seeing how smoothly the lift went, everyone, including Jesus, knew that he had plenty left in the tank.
So, for his final lift of the competition, Jesus Olivares decided to load 417.5 kilograms (920.4 pounds) on the bar. He then came out wearing only a lifting belt, grabbed the bar with a mixed grip, and utilized the conventional stance to pull the weight off the floor. It clearly meant a lot to Jesus, as he dropped down to his knees and pointed to the sky, which was likely dedicated to his mother, who unfortunately passed away recently.
*The previous +120KG American Raw Deadlift Record was held by Jesus Olivares, who pulled 410-kg (903.9-lb) at the 2023 SBD / IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.
*The official +120KG Raw Deadlift IPF World Record is held by Temur Samkharadze, who locked out 411-kg (906.1-lb) at the 2024 IPF World Junior and Sub-Juniors Powerlifting Championships.
