Jurins Kengamu has been one of the most notable powerlifters in Europe for a long time, but he has now made it official, having won the 2024 EPF European Open Classic Powerlifting Championships. The competition took place in Velika Gorica, Croatia, while Jurnis’ 83-kilogram weight class took the platform on March 13th. Apart from winning his division, Jurins also managed to set a huge 308.5-kilogram (680.1-pound) Raw Squat EPF European Record.
Jurins Kengamu started his competition off by squatting 287.5 kilograms (633.8 pounds) on his first attempt, which was heavier than the majority of his rivals were capable of. He then increased his squat to 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds) on his second attempt, which secured him the lead, as all of his rivals fell short of this remarkable feat of strength.
So, with one shot for glory, Jurins Kengamu decided to load 308.5 kilograms (680.1 pounds) for his final squat attempt. However, in order to achieve this lift, Jurins had to push himself to the limit while also maintaining full focus and perfect technique. Although he struggled a lot during one portion of his squat, Jurins managed to grind out the lift and set a new U83KG European Record.
The former U83KG EPF European Record stood at 308 kilograms (679 pounds), having been set by Edoardo Mazzucchielli at the 2022 European Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Jurins Kengamu won the 2022 EPF European Championships, but lost his title the very next year. However, he worked extra hard in order to reclaim his title at this year’s 2024 EPF European Championships, securing a raw squat European Record in the process. Overall, Jurins has appeared in 23 sanctioned powerlifting competitions and won 12 of them.
Notably, Jurins Kengamu got the silver medal in two editions of the IPF World Championships but never managed to claim the throne. However, seeing that he is currently in extremely great shape, 2024 might just be Kengamu’s year to become the World Champion.
