It is a solemn time in the bodybuilding world, as legendary bodybuilder and training partner to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Karl Kainrath has passed away. He was 77 at the time of his passing. Even at his advanced age, Kainrath still maintained an intense love for fitness and weight training. The Austrian bodybuilder was apparently working as a personal trainer, which would ultimately lead to his heartbreaking passing. According to reports, the 77-year old passed out during a workout, in between exercises. Attempts were made to resuscitate him, but they ultimately were unsuccessful, resulting in his passing.
Back in the day, Kainrath was a phenomenal athlete, and a successful bodybuilder, both in his amateur career, and professionally.
The most notably of his legendary showings came when he was able to win the 1970 Mr. Universe contest. Furthermore, he was friends and training partners with fellow Austrian bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, who took to his Twitter to mourn the loss of his comrade.

“Karl Kainrath welded some of my first weightlifting equipment, he was a fantastic training partner, and he supported me during my first victory at Stuttgart for Junior Mr. Europe. People like him are the reason I don’t call myself a self-made man. My thoughts are with his family.”

This news is certainly heartbreaking, especially in the wake of the death of Franco Columbu. This recent passing of Kainrath just serves as a brutal reminder that our icons are aging, and that death spares no one. As such, it is our responsibility to live each day to the fullest, which Karl certainly did. His life ended with him doing what he loves, which can serve as some sort of consolation.
