IFBB Pro Bikini bodybuilder Lorena Blanco has passed away at 37 years old. On July 26, 2025, it was reported by La Voz de Galicia that she suffered a heart attack inside her home, and while she was rushed to the hospital, she was later pronounced dead.

Blanco transitioned into an IFBB Pro back in 2023 at the NPC Worldwide European Championships. That same weekend, she wanted to see how she stacked up against top talent in the division. At the Europa Pro, she secured 11th place.

Known for leading an incredibly busy schedule, Blanco competed in a total of seven shows during the 2024 bodybuilding season. Competing around the world, her best finish last year came at the Tahoe Pro, where her symmetry, glute-ham tie-ins, and balanced proportions led to fourth place on the scorecards.

Despite being a relative newcomer in the IFBB Pro League, Blanco found her footing quickly, with many noting that it was only a matter of time before fans see her compete at the Olympia. In 2025, she picked up where she left off, entering four events.

From there, she took silver at the Kokeny Classic Hungary Pro. To cap off her budding career, Blanco managed to earn 12th overall at the Gomesia Ultimate Battle Pro Medellin Supershow. Her next contest wasn’t announced, but she looked to be on the precipice of qualifying for the Olympia

Spanish Bikini Bodybuilder Lorena Blanco Dies at 37 Years Old

News of her passing on Instagram shook the bodybuilding community, with many offering their kind wishes and condolences:

Decorated bodybuilding coach Milos Sarcev was one of the first to react:

“RIP Lorena 🙏🏻❤️Condolences to her family and friends”

Bodybuilding veteran Lee Priest was also taken aback by the saddening news.

“So young for heart attack. Sad news ❤️🙏”

Some commenters pointed out that her busy competition schedule could have contributed to her death.

“She’s been on stage 8 times in 2 years. That’s absolutely a contributing factor. Your body is not meant to function at show condition for extended periods of time without sufficient breaks.”

“The judges are guilty, the parameters of criteria has changed in the last years in this category. The contest prep coaches are guilty for insane amounts of protocols to get t”he best “condition , unsustainable diets, training, AAs, this is not REAL bikini contest., just chek the first time decade ago with Natalia Melo for example.. real bikini competitors… RIP young girl 🕊️..”

The fitness and bodybuilding community has been in a state of mourning. Last week, prolific pro wrestling legend Terry Gene Bollea, well known as ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan, tragically died after being treated for a cardiac arrest episode in his Florida home.

Whether the sport is too dangerous remains up for debate. Our team at Fitness Volt sends our condolences to the friends and family of Lorena Blanco.
