The 2024 World Deadlift Championships took place on September 28th at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the 2024 USA Strongman Championships. Although the lineup consisted of mainly male competitors, Lucy Underdown was invited as the sole female lifter. She definitely justified the invite, setting a new Strongwoman Deadlift World Record of 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds).

Lucy Underdown is arguably the greatest female deadlift across all of strength sports and especially in the Strongwoman community. She proved that once again with her new record, when she successfully pulled 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds) off the ground. Lucy’s lift did not even look difficult, as the tremendous power that she produced from a conventional stance was more than enough to achieve the record.

In regard to equipment, Lucy Underdown opted to use just a lifting belt and a pair of lifting straps. The sport of Strongwoman also allows the use of a deadlift suit, which can significantly improve the lifting capabilities. However, Lucy prefers to perform without it, which makes her achievement even more impressive.

Lucy Underdown also held the previous Strongwoman Deadlift World Record of 318 kilograms (701 pounds). She set that record at the 2023 World Deadlift Championships, and has now improved it by 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds). Hopefully her tradition will carry over to 2025, where she could continue pushing the boundaries of what is humanly possible.

“I am absolutely buzzing. I was really nervous. To be the only girl in this show, to come here and represent, that is a lot of pressure.”

The male athletes at the 2024 World Deadlift Championships were not as fortunate to set new World records but did perform some incredible lifts. Four men ended up tying for first place with 470 kilograms (1,036.2 pounds). Some attempted to lift over half a ton but were unable to do so. On the other hand, the 2024 Giants Live USA Strongman Championships saw Mitchell Hooper take the win following an epic showdown against Trey Mitchell.

Lucy Underdown was definitely a big factor in the show’s success, impressing all of the viewers in attendance, including 7x 212-lb Mr. Olympia Flex Lewis and C.T. Fletcher. However, that has been her story throughout the entire season, as she also shocked Arnold Schwarzenegger during her debut at the 2024 Arnold Strongwoman Classic.

Lucy Underdown has taken part in 11 international and national competitions, gathering three wins in total. It is important to note that two of those wins came in the past few months, proving that Lucy is just now starting to achieve her potential. So, she is definitely among the favorites for the remaining competitions this year, including the inaugural Rogue Strongwoman Invitational.

It is almost certain that Lucy Underdown is capable of adding even more weight to her Deadlift World Record, but a 325-kilogram (716.5-pound) pull was satisfactory for her this time. She revealed that she would like to see some other Strongwoman athletes attempt to break the World Record, perhaps even at the next year’s edition of the World Deadlift Championships.
