“Food and nutrition to me is something that weighs heavy. It’s something that I don’t ever underestimate the importance of and also how it can work good and how it can work bad…
The big thing when trying to add on size is to be consistent with food. Don’t skip meals. Don’t miss meals. Don’t try and catch up on meals. Don’t eat empty calories. Empty calories will not only leave you with bad weight; it will also leave you with horrendous energy levels.”
Philosophy Behind Martyn Ford’s Diet
Martyn Ford revealed that the director gave him instructions to “get big” and that he didn’t care about how lean or shredded he was. So, that came as a relief for him, since he didn’t have to pay too much attention to his calorie intake.
“The philosophy behind my diet is very simple: eat when I’m hungry, stay healthy, pick wisely, and most of all, enjoy.
The foods that tend to be in my diet are very simple—fish, chicken, steak, eggs, oats, rice, sweet potatoes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils—you name it, it’s in. There’s nothing new to the way that I eat. It’s not rocket science. It’s very basic. And most of all, it’s been sensible.”
Breakfast
Martyn Ford ate a simple breakfast during his preparation for the ‘Goliath’ role, making sure to be consistent with what he was consuming. He drank a lot of water and ingested eggs, fruits, and oats. Ford also added some whole eggs on the days that he needed to consume more fats.

- Carbohydrate sources: Sweet potato or Rice
- Protein source: Fish, Chicken, or a Steak (Avoids Pasta)
Dinner
Martyn Ford revealed that dinner was a replica of his lunch. However, he does note that those who are trying to get leaner should try to reduce the carbohydrates slightly, but also that increase in fats could stop the cravings. Overcoming an Eating Disorder
Martyn Ford played cricket at a high level during his younger years. However, once he realized that he would not be able to play cricket professionally, he found himself in a state of depression. So, having lost the motivation to train and the purpose of life, Ford ended up with anorexia.
“Anorexia was one of those I had 20-odd years ago, which came on the back end of depression… The person that helped me was a trainer who was an ex-professional footballer. He had no understanding of macros but a massive understanding of good and bad foods. And for me, at the time, that was an adaptation that made sense, and I could find similarities. And then within that, I found trust. It just made sense to me.”
