Prescillia “Lya” Bavoil has cemented her reputation as one of the most renowned female powerlifters of all time, and her unmatched accomplishments have earned her the admiration of countless fans worldwide. So, when she was announced as one of the competitors at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, everyone expected greatness from her. However, what many did not know is that Bavoil has been struggling with some injuries lately, which have made everyday training much harder for her. Despite this massive setback, Lya still managed to push through and set new raw Squat and Total IPF World Records.

Having injured her lower back, Lya Bavoil had to go through a long rehab to reach her best again. Even then, she only had three weeks of training to prepare for the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. So, Lya was justifiably scared, having not known if her back will be able to endure the stress of such massive weights at the competition.

Competing in the 69-kilogram class, Prescillia Bavoil managed to put on some humongous lifts, first one being a 211-kilogram (465.1-pound) squat. This marked a new IPF World Record, since it was 5.5 kilograms (12.1 pounds) heavier than the previous record, which was also held by Lya.

“I thought about not showing up & pulling out but .. This is not me. Despite all the fears, I show up and gave all my best on the platform

It has been so far my hardest prep ever.”
