Sanchez Dillon has been one of the most prominent British powerlifters in the past few years, and the main reason for that was his deadlift prowess. He is known for producing unbelievable pulls wherever he appears, and that was also the case at the 2024 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which are taking place on June 15-23, in Druskininkai, Lithuania. He added to the excitement in the 105-kilogram weight class, having set a 400-kilogram (881.8-pound) Raw Deadlift IPF World Record.

There is not a man in the 105-kilogram weight class that can challenge Sanchez Dillon, and he showed that with his speedy opener at 360 kilograms (793.7 pounds). The majority of other athletes weren’t even able to pull as much throughout any of their three attempts.

However, Sanchez Dillon was not paying attention to his rivals, as he is used to competing against himself. So, he was focused on one goal, and that was to set a World Record. Instead of jumping straight to it, he used his second attempt at 382.5 kilograms (843.3 pounds) to come closer to it and get a feel for the weight.

Since everything went well on the first two attempts, Sanchez Dillon gained confidence that he could achieve his goal. Notably, he did not just want to settle for a World Record, but instead wanted to demolish it and become the first person in his weight class to deadlift 400 kilograms (881.8 pounds).

Sanchez Dillon was well aware of his capabilities and he successfully performed the humongous deadlift with the use of a conventional stance and a mixed grip. Since he was competing in the raw division, he was not allowed to use anything apart from a lifting belt.

*Sanchez Dillon also held the previous U105KG Raw Deadlift IPF World Record of 391-kg (862-lb), which he set at the 2024 IPF Arnold Sports Festival UK.

Sanchez Dillon has reached a very high level in a short amount of time, as he has been competing in powerlifting for less than three years now. He, however, already has nine sanctioned powerlifting appearances, accompanied by five victories. So if he is already making history, it is exciting to imagine what he will be capable of doing in the future.
