The 2025 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships took place on January 26th, gathering a dozen of the world’s greatest powerlifters in both men’s and women’s divisions. One of the most notable ones was Sonita Muluh, who is known as the greatest squatter in the women’s division. Well, she cemented her legacy in the event by setting a 313-kilogram (690-pound) raw squat IPF World Record.

Sonita Muluh got recognition for becoming the first woman to reach the 300-kilogram (661.4-pound) milestone on the squat, but she has since exceeded that by a significant margin. In turn, she decided to open up her performance at the Sheffield Powerlifting Championships with a huge 295-kilogram (650.3-pound) raw squat. The lift moved extremely quickly, giving Sonita confidence to push herself even further.

Consequently, on her second attempt, Sonita Muluh decided to make a jump to 313 kilograms (690 pounds). Following the regulations of the raw division, she only put on a lifting belt, a pair of knee sleeves, and some wrist wraps. Once all was set, Sonita walked out on the stage. Her 313-kilogram (690-pound) squat looked comfortable once again, despite it being a new +84KG IPF World Record.

It was very clear that Sonita Muluh was capable of lifting more weight, which is why she added another 12.5 kilograms (27.6 pounds) to the bar. This unfortunately proved to be slightly too much. Sonita managed to get midway through the lift but couldn’t push through the sticking point.
