Stanislaw Mentel is one of the most inspirational athletes in the sport of powerlifting, mostly because of what he manages to accomplish at the age of 70-years-old. Well, one of Stanislaw’s most notable appearances occurred recently, when he took part in the 2024 EPF Bench Press Championships. There, he managed to set a brand new 190.5-kilogram (420-pound) Masters 4 IPF World Record.
Stanislaw Mentel’s Full Performance
Stanislaw Mentel took part in the 105-kilogram weight class. On the other hand, having been born in 1954, he was placed in the Masters 4 Age Class. Obviously, having set a new World Record, Stanislaw also walked away with the gold medal in his division.
Note: Stanislaw Mentel competed in the EPF Bench Press Championships, which were a single-event competition.
Stanislaw Mentel opened up at 175 kilograms (385.8 pounds), but his goals were set much higher. So, for his second attempt, the Polish powerlifter jumped up to 183 kilograms (403.4 pounds). With this, he already managed to eclipse the former World Record while also having one more attempt.
Stanislaw Mentel figured that he had nothing to lose and decided to up the weight to 190.5 kilograms (420 pounds) for his final attempt. With all eyes on him, he made sure to give it his all. Displaying perfect technique and using nothing apart from wrist wraps, Stanislaw managed to lock out the lift, further advancing the record by another 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds).

Werner Richter held the previous record of 181 kilograms (399 pounds), which he set at the 2018 EPF European Classic Bench Press Championships. So, although the record stood for six years, Stanislaw has managed to advance it by 9.5 kilograms (20.9 pounds).

Stanislaw Mentel boasts an incredible resume, despite being introduced to powerlifting at the age of 54-years-old. It took him years to improve enough to the point that he was contending for coveted titles. However, since then, Stanislaw has managed to win countless elite competitions and shatter World Records.
It is not clear if Stanislaw Mentel will compete again in the remainder of the year or if he will turn his sights to 2025. He has already won the 2024 IPF World Bench Press Championships in both the raw and equipped divisions, and now won the European title as well.
Stanislaw Mentel is living proof that it is never too late to start anything and, in fact, reach the highest level possible. In his case, he became one of the greatest Masters powerlifters in history, holding world records in multiple weight classes. However, Stanislaw is getting better with each year, meaning that he has a lot in store for the future.
