Hafthor Bjornsson is looking to make a big statement at the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic. Ahead of this event, he has been hitting the gym and tossing around some serious weight.
Bjornsson is a mountain of a man (see what I did there?), and one of the best strongman competitors in the world. He has won the title of Iceland’s Strongest Man for eight straight years. In addition to that, he won the 2018 World’s Strongest Man and is the Arnold Strongman Classic champ for two years running.
However, after a disappointing loss to Martins Licis earlier this year, there was some doubt about Bjornsson. Some were questioning his ability to continue being one of the best athletes in the world. As a result, he has kind of been backed into a corner, heading into his 9th consecutive appearance at the Arnold Strongman Classic.
At the 2020 event, going down in March, Thor Bjornsson is looking to continue his run as the champion. Therefore he has been putting in some serious amounts of work in the training room. A bit of that work was on display in a recent Instagram post. In the video, Thor is looking beastly beyond belief, as he crushes an 815lb deadlift for a double. Moreover, it’s something he did for two sets, all the while looking like he could practically double that weight.
“Easy 370kg/815lbs deadlift 2 reps 2 sets! Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🎅”

Check out the lift from Bjornsson:
To see Bjornsson hit this lift so easily is quite the image of intensity. He made it look nearly effortless, which implies that he is absolutely ready for Columbus. Training around the holidays is hard for many, but he is evidently focused and driven towards what he wants to accomplish.
Thor Bjornsson may not be successful at the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic, on March 6-7th. After all, he will be facing a steep lineup of competition. Nevertheless, he is clearly prepared to give it his all.
