Tia-Clair Toomey has recently developed a passion for Hyrox, which has significantly impacted her aspirations for the 2025 season. Being the reigning Fittest Woman on Earth, Tia-Clair also aims to defend her title at the CrossFit Games. So, she decided to make a YouTube video and reveal how she plans on navigating the challenge of balancing Hyrox and CrossFit at the same time.

Tia-Clair Toomey has already qualified for the 2025 Hyrox World Championships in two divisions. On the other hand, she still needs to secure her spot at the CrossFit Games through the CrossFit Semifinals. So, Tia-Clair has a number of challenges ahead of her but is determined to succeed in both sports.

Tia-Clair Toomey’s Plans for 2025 Season

Tia-Clair Toomey was impressed by the Hyrox community, which ended up drawing her into the sport. She enjoys being surrounded by people who have the same goal as her, getting fitter, and helping each other progress.

“For me, jumping into Hyrox, I got to experience a really unique community in Melbourne last year, and that community reminded me of the early days of CrossFit and what got me into CrossFit—just being addicted to working on your fitness and being surrounded by like-minded people… I just thought it would be a one-race thing and now I am finding myself training for the World Championships.

It is somewhat complementary to CrossFit, but so different. I’m going to have to really work on my speed, and there are going to be so many different challenges that I’ve never faced before.”

While it is easy to assume that CrossFit and Hyrox are completely complementary, Tia-Clair Toomey points out that they are not quite the same. Training for speed in Hyrox might limit the development of raw strength required for CrossFit competitions.

“I would say there is somewhat of a risk and setback doing Hyrox and really honing in on my running because in CrossFit, you need a lot of strength, and you need to be able to move weight fast. You need to be strong. In Hyrox, you do need to be strong, but you don’t need to be really strong like a CrossFit athlete.”

Facing a New Challenge

What Tia-Clair Toomey liked about Hyrox is the fact that she is not labeled the undisputed champion. Instead, she is in a position where she has to chase down multiple other incredible athletes. This reminds Tia-Clair of her beginnings in CrossFit and motivates her to pursue improvement.

“There are such incredible athletes to chase down, and in CrossFit, I’ve competed against incredible athletes for years and years and years. And I’ve really had to work on my own ability to not get complacent and to stay on top, and that is very challenging, and it weighs a lot on one’s shoulders. But by doing this Hyrox, it’s actually quite freeing to be the one chasing now, and it’s almost bringing me back to those early days in CrossFit when I had to chase for that top spot. And I’m definitely doing it differently this time with Hyrox.”

Taking on Hyrox World Championships & CrossFit Semifinals

With her recent activity in Hyrox, many CrossFit fans wondered if Tia-Clair Toomey would even come back to defend her title of Fittest Woman on Earth. Well, she has now revealed her exact plan for the upcoming season.

Tia-Clair Toomey does plan on participating in the 2025 CrossFit Semifinals. Specifically, she will take part in the Torian Pro Semifinal, which will take place from May 30 to June 01 in Brisbane. It is there that Tia-Clair will hope to perform well and qualify for the 2025 CrossFit Games.

However, Tia-Clair Toomey plans on taking part in the 2025 Hyrox World Championships. Namely, this competition will take place just days after the CrossFit Semifinals, as it is scheduled for June 12-15. Not only that, Tia-Clair will also have to travel to Chicago for the Hyrox World Championships, which will make it even more difficult for her to recover.

“I’ve really only just planned until the Chicago (Hyrox) World Champs because that really, at the start of the year, was the main priority. And then I got an invitation to Torian Pro and I thought, well why not? Torian Pro means a lot to me and it’s a competition that I think showcases CrossFit in such a great, positive light. And you know, being on home soil, competing in front of an Australian crowd is just always so amazing and just lifts me up so much more.”

Tia-Clair Toomey recently set a new Hyrox World Record in the Women’s Doubles division with Joanna Wietrzyk. So, she is clearly one of the favorites to take the title in this division at the 2025 Hyrox World Championships. However, it remains to be seen how much toll the performance at the CrossFit Semifinals just days prior will take on her. If successful in achieving her goals, Tia-Clair Toomey will cement her legacy as the fittest woman ever.
