Bodybuilding can be traced back to the stone-lifting traditions of ancient Greece. But modern bodybuilding only develops in late 19th century and gained popularity in the 1950’s and 1960’s through various competitions like Mr. America and Mr. Universe. From there the sport only continued to grow through such stars as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno.

Since bodybuilding is a sport of individuals and not teams – we become very attached to each pro bodybuilder like a celebrity personality. The more we see them compete and put themselves out there, the more we connect with them as people. The death of any person is a very sad thing indeed only to be made all the sadder when they are a public figure.

These three deaths in bodybuilding history are truly saddening but also the way they died was shocking.  Check out the list above.
