As the mythology implies, even Herculian efforts wouldn’t be enough to win this one. The Atalanta was a timed event that consisted of a one-mile run, 100 handstand push-ups, 200 single-leg squats, 300 pull-ups, and a second one-mile run to finish. Women wore a 14-pound vest and the men’s vests were 20 pounds.

It was clear that Kari could taste the win, and crushed this event. But it still wasn’t enough to become the Fittest on Earth®.

Day 1 of CrossFit Games

Event 1: 2007 Reload Event

What is the 2007 Reload Event?

The 2007 Reload Event is the first of two events that were held in the first-ever CrossFit Games in 2007.

The 2007 event requires a 1,000-meter row, five rounds of 25-pull-ups, and seven push jerks at 135 pounds for the men, and 95 pounds for the women.

The “Reload” portion of this event for 2020 is a timed event that includes adding more weight to shoulder-to-overhead lifts that include 235 pounds for men, and 145 pounds for women. Also added were additional 500 meters on the row, and switching pull-ups to muscle-ups.

2007 Reload Event

For Men, Medeiros was coming into the Finals after having ranked third in Stage 1 of the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games. He came third to Ohlsen in Stage 1 by only an eight-point spread.

Now, Medeiros is ahead of Ohlsen by a 20-point spread. Mat Fraser keeps his number one spot warm and close to his chest at 100 points to Justin’s 75 points.

Fraser blew all of his four finalist competitors out of the water in Stage 1 finishing with 656 points.

It appears he is motivated to do the same thing in the Finals, and he’s off to a good start at keeping the Fittest Man on Earth® title.

In third after the 2007 Reload event is Samuel Kwant with 55 points. Kwant finished fourth in Stage 1 with 39 points of 449 behind Justin Medeiros’s 480 points.

Jeffrey Adler from Canada placed fourth in the 2007 Reload event today and is holding at 35 points. He came into the Finals today in fifth place after Stage 1 with 420.

Noah Ohlsen has some work to do after the 2007 Reload if he wants to jump back into the number two spot behind Mat Fraser. He finished Stage 1 with 488 and finishes the 2007 Reload in fifth place, and 15 points, 20 points behind Adler.

For the women, Tia-Clair Toomey is showing her competitors that she is hanging onto that title for dear life. She finished first in both of the events this morning, and her competitors experienced a little bit of shuffling.

The first round of tallies after the first two events show that the women are just as hungry to unseat Tia as the men are to unseat Mat.

Haley Adams finished Stage 1 in third place and is now sitting in the number two spot behind Tia. 2015 and 2016 Fittest Woman on Earth® Katrin Davidsdottir was in fourth place after Stage 1 and is sitting in third place after the Corn Sack Sprint.

Kari Pearce showed in fifth place after Stage 1, and has something to prove. After the first two events today she is in fourth place and 60 points ahead of Brooke Wells.

So far, Brooke Wells is not having a good day. She finished Stage 1 in second place to Toomey and is now in fifth place for points.
