The 2024 CrossFit Games Day Two was basically the opening day of the competition, seeing that the first day featured just one event before the rest were cancelled. However, the second day featured three events in both the Individual and Teams divisions. Ultimately, at the end of the day, Tia-Clair Toomey and James Sprague took the lead in their respective divisions, having accumulated the most points.
The 2024 CrossFit Games day two witnessed some incredible results, as some experienced athletes like Tia-Clair Toomey managed to claim an event win. On the other hand, some athletes secured their first career event win at the Games. Those athletes included the debutant, Grace Walton, and a well-known athlete, Jayson Hopper.
The first day of the 2024 CrossFit Games is one that will be remembered as the saddest in the history of the sport. In the first event, while finishing the 800-meter swim in the lake, Lazar Đukić drowned. So, the day was called off, but the organizers decided that the best way to honor him would be to continue.

- 30/50 ski-erg calories

Men’s Results
Patrick Vellner finished 33rd on the first event, but made a quick turn-around and won the second event of the 2024 CrossFit Games. He has always been incredible at chipper-style workouts and this time was no different. Being in the first heat, Patrick Vellner knew that he had to set a very fast time, as some other elite athletes from later heats would look at his time and know what they had to do. So, he finished in 14:14.05, which proved to be good enough for an event win.
Jayson Hopper was just shy of Patrick Vellner’s time, as less than three seconds ended up separating the two. He was rushing, looking at the clock, but just didn’t have the pace needed to beat the Canadian.
Dallin Pepper had his own race against Justin Medeiros, with the two US representatives battling for third place. Medeiros finished with a time of 14:27.76, while Pepper managed to beat him by just 1.26 seconds.
Another notable takeaway from this event is that lane number five remained empty throughout the heats in memory of Lazar Đukić.
- Patrick Vellner — 14:14.05
- Jayson Hopper — 14:16.68
- Dallin Pepper — 14:26.50
- Justin Medeiros — 14:27.76
- Kaylan Souza — 14:48.68
- Samuel Kwant — 15:03.60

Women’s Results
Tia-Clair Toomey was truly in a league of her own, winning the second consecutive event at the 2024 CrossFit Games and cementing her lead. She beat the second-place finisher by a whopping 27 seconds and truly crushed all of the obstacles that were in her way. Although many women found the rope climb to be very troubling, Tia-Clair breezed through, and walked away after the event without even looking tired.
Madeline Sturt finished in second-place, which was her highest placement ever at the CrossFit Games. It is important to note that she has not appeared in the Games since 2019, but has now come in what looks like her best shape yet.
Haley Adams finished in third-place with a time 13 seconds slower than Madeline Sturt’s. Adams decided to miss out on the 2023 CrossFit season to rest up mentally and physically, which has clearly worked wonders for her.
- Tia-Clair Toomey — 13:15.95
- Madeline Sturt — 13:43.21
- Haley Adams — 13:56.77
- Gabriela Migala — 13:58.38
- Emma Tall — 14:09.80
- Emily Rolfe — 15:05.50
- Claudia Gluck — 15:12.86
- Arielle Loewen — 15:13.71
- Alex Gazan — 15:20.47
- Aimee Cringle — 15:26.26
Firestorm
The second workout of the day was the Firestorm, simply described as basic but effective. It challenged the athletes to go three rounds on an echo-bike, followed by burpees over a barricade. The lactic acid buildup in the legs following the echo bike made the second portion of the workout significantly more difficult.
3 rounds for time of:
- Echo-bike calories (11/15)
- 11 burpees over barricade
Men’s Results
Firestorm Workout absolutely lived up to its name, as it was hectic to say the least. The only strategy for the event was to go full power, with every second being of crucial value. One man who is known for being great in sprint-based events is Jayson Hopper. Well, he finally managed to win an event at the CrossFit Games.
Dallin Pepper was actually ahead of Jayson Hopper in the first two rounds. However, he got too fatigued in the third round, while Hopper managed to maintain his pace. Pepper still finished in second-place with a time of 2:37.48 minutes. Patrick Vellner rounded up the top three with a time of 2:41.54 minutes.
- Jayson Hopper — 2:32.48
- Dallin pepper — 2:37.48
- Patrick Vellner — 2:41.54
- James Sprague — 2:42.10
- Samuel Kwant — 2:45.07
- Brandon Luckett — 2:49.25
- Harry Lightfoot — 2:49.91
- Roman Khrennikov — 2:50.82
- Brent Fikowski — 2:50.97
- Henrik Haapalainen — 2:52.80
Women’s Results
Lasting only around three minutes, the women’s Firestorm event was absolutely a sprint. Every second mattered, as it could have separated multiple athletes. However, the who ended up being the fastest was Grace Walton. Making her debut at the 2024 CrossFit Games, Grace immediately displayed her prowess, which turned out to be explosive power and sprinting. She was the fastest throughout all three rounds and beat the rivals by a few seconds. Her pace did slow down on the burpees, but her performances on the bike were unbelievable.
Bethany Flores finished in second-place, six seconds slower than Grace Walton. This secured her a large number of points and definitely helped her overall standing. Alex Gazan finished in third place with a time of 3:11.20 seconds. She had the leading time throught the first three heats, but Grace’s incredible run pushed her down.
- Grace Walton — 3:03.59
- Bethany Flores — 3:09.07
- Alex Gazan — 3:11.20
- Danielle Brandon — 3:13.68
- Emily Rolfe — 3:14.49
- Gabriela Migala — 3:15.08
- Tia-Clair Toomey — 3:15.66
- Haley Adams — 3:16.76
- Emma Lawson — 3:17.06
- Aimee Cringle — 3:20.28
Track and Field
Although the event pretty much only consisted of running, the combination and diversity of the tasks made it quite unique. Firstly, the athletes had to perform a 1,600-meter run, which definitely warmed-up their legs. However, the next portion of the workout started at the 12-minute mark. So, the pace of the 1,600-meter run could not be too slow or too fast in order to allow athletes to have some rest time but not deplete their energy reserves. Then, they basically had to perform a series of sprints with the goal of crossing the finish line in the shortest time possible.
For time:
- 1,600-meter run
Then, at the 12-minute mark:
- 50-yard sprint
- 50-yard bag carry (70/100 lb)
- 75-yard sprint
- 75-yard bag carry
- 100-yard sprint
Men’s Results
Ricky Garard dominated the final event of the second day at the 2024 CrossFit Games, winning both segments of the workout. He immediately separated from the pack on the 1,600-meter run and held the lead all the way to the end. He then started slower on the second part, letting James Sprague get ahead, but turned on the boosters on the final sprint and quickly overtook him at the end.
Patrick Vellner had a similar situation, finding himself well behind James Spreague and Ricky Garard. However, his experience came in handy, since he knew when to increase his pace. In turn, Vellner finished in second place. Sprague, although he was in the lead, just couldn’t get his body moving on the final straight and fell down to third-place.
- Ricky Garard — 1:04.89
- Patrick Vellner — 1:06.36
- James Sprague — 1:06.44

The athletes understood that they had to have a solid time on the 1,600-meter run without depleting energy from their fast-twitch fibers since they had to perform multiple sprints afterwards. One athlete that managed to control this well was Tia-Clair Toomey, finishing with a score of 1:13.10. This marked her third event win at the 2024 CrossFit Games out of the four events that took place.
Gabriela Migala finished in second-place with a score of 1:13.39. She was racing against Haley Adams throughout the entire event and ended up beating her in the final moments. In turn, Adams had to settle for third place with a time of 1:14.26.
- Tia-Clair Toomey — 1:13.10
- Gabriela Migala — 1:13.39

Day Two Recap for Teams
Squat, Ski, Climb
‘Squat, Ski, Climb’ was the first workout for the Teams division at the 2024 CrossFit Games, since all of their workouts were canceled on day one. The workout challenged both the individual capabilities of each athlete but also some movements that required perfect coordination between all team members.
For time:
- 40 synchro sandbag squats (150/200 lb)
- 1 legless rope climb each
- 40-calorie ski erg
- 1 legless rope climb each
- 10 Earthworm thrusters
- 2 legless rope climbs each
- 10 Earthworm thrusters
- 1 legless rope climb each
- 40-calorie ski erg
- 1 legless rope climb each
- 40 synchro sandbag squats (150/200 lb)
In a truly spectacular moment, the former team of Lazar Đukić, CrossFit Mayhem, managed to top the leaderboards at the first event. They finished in a time of 12:53.00 and dedicated the event win to Lazar. They were clearly motivated to honor their former colleague and did so at the start of the competition.
It is important to note that the majority of Teams competing waited 60 seconds after the start of the event in order to honor Lazar in their own way. CrossFit Mayhem was not one of those, since he was their former member.
The second place went to CrossFit Torian, who had an incredible run in the event, finishing all exercises in 13:10 minutes. They are competing under the flag of Australia and are hoping to finally bring a win back to their country. Interestingly, the third-place finisher, Raw Iron CrossFit, is also representing Australia, proving how developed CrossFit is in the mentioned country.
- CrossFit Mayhem — 12:53.00
- CrossFit Torian — 13:10.18
- Raw Iron CrossFit — 13:42.48
- Einhorn CrossFit — 13:42.85

- Peak 360 CrossFit — 14:29.79
- Ocean State CrossFit — 14:42.70
Team Firestorm
For their second event, the Teams took on the Firestorm. Specifically, they took turns pedaling on the echo bike and performing burpees for multiple rounds. The pacing of the Teams was crucial, as the person on the bike and the person performing the burpees looked to finish their task at approximately the same time. This helped make the transition smoother and minimize the time lost.
All for time:
F/F pair completes 3 rounds for time of:
- 11-calorie Echo bike
- 11 burpees over barricade
M/M pair completes 3 rounds for time of:
- 15-calorie Echo bike
- 11 burpees over barricade
CrossFit Oslo Kriger Rizz won the event with a time of 6:49.10, which they set in one of the earlier heats. So, the teams that performed in later groups looked at their time and strived to beat it. Although some did come close, no one managed to beat the Team from Norway.
CrossFit Mayhem and Raw Iron CrossFit went head-to-head in a battle for second place. It was unclear who would come out on top until the last second, since Mayhem finished in a time of 6:54.70, while Raw Iron crossed the line at 6:55.77.
- CrossFit Oslo Kriger Rizz — 6:49.10
- CrossFit Mayhem — 6:54.70

- CrossFit Reignited — 7:17.18
Farrington Five
The last event on day two for the Teams was simple but effective. The athletes first had to run 1,600 meters together while holding a rope between them. This did alter the mechanics of their running, since they couldn’t swing their arms as usual. Then, once they finished, they had to push a Bob that was equal in weight to a grand piano.
For time:
- 1,600-meter team run
- 54-yard Bob Push (942 lb)
CrossFit Torian executed the event as a unit, accommodating their running speed to their slowest athlete while gently pushing him to move as fast as possible. They then combined their forces and pushed the humongous bob across the field at an impressive speed. Their final time came out to 6:52.81, which was enough for an event win.
CrossFit Oslo Kriger BLST was the only other Team that managed to finish the event in less than seven minutes, and they deservedly finished in second place. The third-place was decided by exactly one second, as team 8th Day CrossFit beat Raw Iron CrossFit.
- CrossFit Torian — 6:52.81
- CrossFit Oslo Kriger BLST — 6:58.37
- 8th Day CrossFit — 7:02.16
- Raw Iron CrossFit — 7:03.16

Day One Recap for Individuals
Lake Day
One of the most basic fitness parameters is the ability of an athlete to run and swim. So, for this workout, the competitors first had to run 3.5 miles along the coast of a lake. Then, after completing that portion, they had to take a plunge into the cold lake water and swim for an additional 800 meters. The complexity of this event lies in the fact that the first part was focused heavily on the legs, but the swimming posed a completely different task, where the competitors relied on their arms. Those who were experienced swimmers definitely had an opportunity to score a lot of points.
For time:
- 3.5-mile run
- 800-meter swim
Men’s Results
Jeffrey Adler and Ricky Garard were the fastest male athletes on the 3.5-mile run, but encountered a lot of trouble once they entered the watter. The swimming was much more complicated, firstly because of how difficult it is physically, but also because some of the athletes had trouble going in a straight line from the start to the finish. However, Jelle Hoste was not one of them, as he finished the workout in a time of xx, faster than anyone else.
Brent Fikowski has won swimming events in the past, so it is not a surprise that he finished in second-place this year. He was not far behind Jelle Hoste, but did not pose a threat to the Belgian athlete. Roman Khrennikov finished in third-place, crossing the finish line 15 seconds after Fikowski.
The event was, however, overshadowed by the passing of Lazar Đukić.
- Jelle Hoste — 36.50.87
- Brent Fikowski — 37:55.41
- Roman Khrennikov — 38:10.72
- Ricky Garard — 38:32.60
- Ruan Potgieter — 38:42.20
- Saxon Panchik — 38:50.81
- James Sprague — 39:26.02
- Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson — 39:29.86
- Chris Ibarra — 39:32.16
- Brandon Luckett — 39:51.09
Women’s Results
From the very start of the race it was clear who the biggest favorite for the event was. Namely, Tia-Clair Toomey was the fastest woman both on land and in the water. In fact, Tia-Clair was faster than the majority of the men, which is beyond impressive. She has won the majority of swimming events throughout her CrossFit career, and has added yet another victory this year with a time of 38:06.88.
Bethany Flores finished in second-place, which is her best event result at the CrossFit Games since 2019. She was also faster than a lot of men and was the only other woman apart from Toomey to finish in under 40 minutes. Emily Rolfe rounded up the top three with a time of 40:21 minutes.
- Tia-Clair Toomey — 38:06.88
- Bethany Flores — 39:36.72
