The final day of the 2024 CrossFit Games wrapped up the entire competition in Fort Worth, Texas. The final day brought two more events for both Individuals and Teams, after which the leaderboards were finalized. Ultimately, Tia-Clair Toomey and James Sprague were crowned as Fittest Woman and Man on Earth.

Coming into the final day, no one knew what events would take place, not even the competitors. So, having no time to prepare, everyone had to rely fully on their fitness levels, which is what the 2024 CrossFit Games were all about.

Tia-Clair Toomey had a strong lead after three days of competition, but James Sprague was trailing Brent Fikowski by over 40 points. Toomey managed to hold on to her lead, while Sprague pulled off the impossible comeback and beat Fikowski to become the Fittest Man on Earth.

Individual Events Recap

Dickies Triplet

Having to perform five rounds of the three-segment workout, pacing and strategy were guaranteed to play a major role in getting a decent result. Moreover, the transitions between the workouts were also something where a lot of time could be gained or lost depending on the athlete. Although the workout did not contain any complex exercises, performing them for multiple rounds quickly got fatiguing.

5 rounds for time:

  • 175-meter run
  • 12 toes-to-bars
  • 8 alternating dumbbell snatches (70/100 lb)

Men’s Results

Having finished at the bottom of the leaderboard in a similar event last year, Jayson Hopper made sure to address his weaknesses and improve. So, when the Dickies Triplet came up at the 2024 CrossFit Games, Jayson surprised everyone, winning the event ahead of some very credible athletes with a time of 7:04.19.

Hopper’s win did not come easy, as he had to defend his position against the rapid James Sprague. The two men went at it for the entirety of the event, but Sprague ultimately had to settle for second with a time just 3 seconds slower than Hopper’s. The overall leader, Brent Fikowski, did not drop too many points on the event, having finished in third place.

  1. Jayson Hopper — 7:04.19
  2. James Sprague — 7:07.98
  3. Brent Fikowski — 7:14.24
  4. Patrick Vellner — 7:17.10
  5. Dallin Pepper — 7:17.25
  6. Justin Medeiros — 7:34.06
  7. Jay Crouch — 7:51.35
  8. Ricky Garard — 7:59.25
  9. Jelle Hoste — 7:59.73
  10. Roman Khrennikov — 8:09.47

Women’s Results

In what became a frequent sighting at the 2024 CrossFit Games, Tia-Clair Toomey once again took the win, her fifth of the competition. She made sure to take the lead on the first round, and it was smooth sailing onward. Tia-Clair was never threatened by any of her rivals, making sure to keep her lead by exerting only the necessary efforts. Her final time came out to 7:23.69.

Gabriela Migala was trying to keep up with Tia-Clair Toomey throughout the entire event. So, despite not managing to grab first, the pace she had while chasing Tia-Clair was more than good enough to secure her a second-place finish. The battle for third-place came down to just a few reps on the dumbbell snatch, with Haley Adams managing to beat Emily Rolfe.

  1. Tia-Clair Toomey — 7:23.69
  2. Gabriela Migala — 7:33.59
  3. Haley Adams — 7:49.22
  4. Emily Rolfe — 7:54.29
  5. Brooke Wells — 7:57.66
  6. Bethany Flores — 8:01.42
  7. Aimee Cringle — 8:06.22
  8. Madeline Sturt — 8:16.28
  9. Paige Semenza — 8:20.03
  10. Grace Walton — 8:20.59

Final 2421, Final 1815

The final event of the 2024 CrossFit Games carried double the points since it was a 2-in-1 workout. They were separated into the ‘Final 2421’ and ‘Final 1815’, but the athletes had just two minutes of rest between the two events.

Event 9: Final 2421

The first of two events was focused most on the thrusters and chest-to-bar pull-ups, which covered the activation of both upper and lower body muscles.

For time:

  • 24 thrusters (65/95 lb)
  • 24 chest-to-bar pull-ups
  • 80-foot yoke carry (245/425 lb)
  • 21 chest-to-bar pull-ups
  • 21 thrusters

Rest 2 minutes, then

Event 10: Final 1815

The second part of the workout was very similar to the first one. However, it was significantly more difficult, as both the Thruster and Yoke Carry were done with heavier weights. Moreover, instead of pull-ups, the athletes had to perform muscle-ups.

  • 18 thrusters (95/135 lb)
  • 18 bar muscle-ups
  • 80-foot yoke carry (345/525 lb)
  • 15 bar muscle-ups
  • 15 thrusters

Teams Events Recap

Fort Worth Shuffle

The Earthworm made its appearance on day three of the CrossFit Games but has returned once more for the final day as well. It is one of the core Teams workouts, but this time it was paired with Chest-to-Bar pull-up and running. While one member of the team was performing the pull-ups, the other one had to run.

For time:

  • 30-foot Earthworm lunge (L)
  • 25 chest-to-bar pull-ups/run
  • 25 chest-to-bar pull-ups/run
  • 30-foot Earthworm lunge (R)
  • 20 toes-to-bars/run
  • 20 toes-to-bars/run
  • 30-foot Earthworm lunge (L)
  • 15 bar muscle-ups/run
  • 15 bar muscle-ups/run
  • 30-foot Earthworm lunge

Peak 360 CrossFit was the first team to cross the finish line, doing so in just 6:35.62. Moreover, they crushed everyone in their heat, completing the final 30-foot lunges before any other team got off the pull-up rig. So, they definitely deserved to take the 100 points, which are crucial for the podium and title battles.

CrossFit Invictus Unconquerable finished in second with a time of 6:48.40, while 8th Day CrossFit took third with a time eight seconds slower. However, the biggest surprise was the underperformance of one of the top three overall teams, CrossFit Mayhem, who did not even make it into the top 10.

  1. Peak 360 CrossFit — 6:35.62
  2. CrossFit Invictus Unconquerable — 6:48.40
  3. 8th Day CrossFit — 6:56.17
  4. CrossFit Levis — 6:57.36
  5. CrossFit Queretaro — 7:01.30
  6. Einhorn CrossFit — 7:07.26
  7. CrossFit Invictus — 7:07.52
  8. CrossFit Oslo Kriger Rizz — 7:09.40
  9. Raw Iron CrossFit — 7:11.62
  10. CrossFit Torian — 7:12.44

Beasts of Burden

The final Teams event of the 2024 CrossFit Games brought in a familiar implement — the Snail. Similar in shape to a hay bale, the teams had to push / roll the implement for a total distance of 240 feet while making sure that it went in a straight line. Moreover, the athletes had to perform 80 synchro deadlifts between two pushes.

For time:

  • 120-foot Snail push (720 lb)
  • 80 synchro deadlifts (225/315 lb)
  • 120-foot Snail push

CrossFit Mayhem came away with an event win but weren’t able to get back up into the top three overall. However, Raw Iron CrossFit finished in second-place, which meant that they became the Fittest Team On Earth. So, they made history by winning the CrossFit Games, as there has never been an Australian team on the podium, let alone winning the competition.

Notably, one of the key members of the winning team, Raw Iron CrossFit, Kara Saunders, announced her retirement from the sport following the final event. She had an incredible 12-year-long career and capped it off by leading her team to the win at the 2024 CrossFit Games.

  1. CrossFit Mayhem — 5:20.51
  2. Raw Iron CrossFit — 5:27.37
  3. 8th Day CrossFit — 5:43.72
  4. CrossFit Torian — 5:43.76
  5. Ocean State CrossFit — 5:43.88
  6. CrossFit Invictus Unconquerable — 5:50.85
  7. Peak 360 CrossFit — 6:08.46
  8. CrossFit Invictus — 6:13.59
  9. CrossFit 1124 — 6:19.28
  10. CrossFit Prestanda — 6:28.07

Tia-Clair Toomey and Brent Fikowski are leading the pack going into the final day. They just have two more obstacles to overcome before they secure the title. As always, anything is possible, which is why other athletes are still hopeful of taking over the top spot.
