The Mr. Olympia brand has decided to make a change. In a recent Instagram post published on October 23, the rules for 2024 Mr. Olympia changed as only the top three finishers are guaranteed automatic qualifications.
It’s been an exciting season full of change for the Mr. Olympia brand and the IFBB Pro League. There have been significant changes made to multiple divisions as of late. Recently, the Classic Physique height and weight rules were altered. These measures were taken to offer a more balanced playing field for competitors boasting shorter statures. Surprisingly, these changes took effect immediately.
Then, rule changes were instituted for the Men’s Physique class. These alterations were brought to light by IFBB Pro League Vice President Tyler Manion. The league stated that competitors from Men’s Physique were beginning to rival athletes in Classic Physique, prompting the change. These changes take effect at the first contest following the 2023 Mr. Olympia.
Now, to stoke more interest and fanfare for shows outside of the Olympia, the promotion has decided to make it even more challenging for Open talent to secure a spot on the sport’s most prestigious stage. It should be noted that all other IFBB Pro League categories offer automatic qualification to those in the top three. Formally, the top five Mr. Olympia finishers were granted automatic qualifications.

Mr. Olympia Announces Only Top 3 to Receive Automatic Qualifications
Check out the explanation behind the new rules below:
“Who Automatically Qualifies for Next Year’s Olympia?
Here at the Olympia, we pay close attention to the hundreds of Olympia qualifier events held around the world. In recent years, the top 5 finishers in the Mr. Olympia division have received an automatic qualification to the following year’s Olympia, but after consulting with the IFBB Pro League we have decided to make a change.
Starting with this year’s event, only the top 3 in the Mr. Olympia will automatically qualify for the following year’s Olympia. We are making this change in an effort to add some additional star power to the various regional events held worldwide.
This change is being made with the full support of the IFBB Pro League as we all share an interest in maintaining a system that strengthens events at all levels.

Olympia Owner• Note: With this change, it now means that the top 3 in all Olympia divisions will receive an automatic qualification to the following year’s Olympia.” the Mr. Olympia Instagram account shared.
Competitors outside of the top three on the Mr. Olympia stage will no longer earn an automatic invite to the following year’s Olympia show. With the new changes in mind, it will be fascinating to see more high-profile Open competitors making their way to IFBB Pro League competitions outside of the Mr. Olympia.
