The 2024 New York Pro took place on Saturday, May 18 at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, New Jersey. This competition featured athletes from nine divisions including the Men’s Open, Men’s 212 Bodybuilding, Classic Physique, Men’s Physique, Bikini, Women’s Bodybuilding, Figure, Women’s Physique, and Wellness. In the headlining event, Nick Walker won his second New York Pro ring and earned his qualification for the 2024 Mr. Olympia!
Considered the third-most prestigious bodybuilding event of the year, the New York Pro, once called the Night of Champions, has a rich history in the IFBB Pro League with several icons winning the title such as Kai Greene, Phil Heath, and Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay. In 2021, Nick Walker won gold and aimed to replicate that success this weekend against 2023 NY Pro winner Tonio Burton and Martin Fitzwater.
Athletes have until September 15 to earn their qualification for the 2024 Mr. Olympia. This event was a Mr. Olympia qualifier for the 2024 season. Walker has continued to add mass while keeping his waist tight. His V-taper shined on stage and his front lat spread has drastically improved since his last show in Ohio, making for a more shapely physique.
Having taken third on the prestigious Olympia stage and second to Samson Dauda at the Arnold Classic in 2023, Walker was out to prove himself with a next-level peak. However, no one could have predicted the breakout performance of Martin Fitzwater.
Fitzwater felt confident heading into this event, and for good reason. His win at the Detroit Pro not only sent a clear message to the Open class but it bolstered his self-belief. Fitzwater’s fullness, feathered quads, and striated chest gave Walker all he could handle on stage.
The show captivated fans during each passing moment with interesting comparisons. By the end of the night, Nick Walker secured his second New York Pro ring and is now 2024 Mr. Olympia-bound! Martin Fitzwater made a statement in second place and Tonio Burton finished third.
