Huel Supplement Review DEALS

Can Huel meal replacement provide you with everything you need to be fit and healthy?

After trying several meal replacement supplements, I can offer my honest review of the quality of Huel meal replacement. Pro Tip: It’s always recommended to include a nutritionally complete supplement in your arsenal.

Huel stands for “Human Fuel” and it’s actually the British company’s name (Huel) who created the flagship meal replacement, Huel.

The company was started with one mission in mind, which was to provide a quality, all-around nutritionally complete supplement while taking it easy on the environment. Nutritionist James Collier had a big role in the development of Huel, and so far it has been a big hit with everyone from all walks of life.

Huel products range from Ready Drink shakes to powders, accessories and even “flavor boost” pouches for the meal replacements. If you prefer Gluten-free, they have that too.

Here’s the review for the Huel meal replacement product which is supposed to be worth the hype; considering it packs a powerful punch of all necessary nutrients.

We’ll begin with the pros and cons to give you an idea of what to look out for if considering Huel for your own goals.

Pros of Huel Meal Replacement

  • Decent taste
  • Plenty of essential nutritional value
  • Ideal for anyone

Cons of Huel Meal Replacement

  • Artificial ingredients (If it bothers you)
  • Gums may cause digestive discomfort
  • Two-bag purchase
  • Slightly grainy

Huel Nutritional Breakdown

If you like nutritionally dense meal replacements, then you’ll love Huel. The big reason I decided to try it out was that of the amazing supply of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals (Essential for an active lifestyle).

Huel Ingredients

Huel recommends using 3 scoops of powder which equals 500 calories (Not necessary for everyone). A serving contains about 37 grams of protein, 47 grams of carbs and 16 grams of fat (With no cholesterol).

This is a heck of a lot of each macronutrient and again, is not necessary for everyone depending on your goals. However, it is a great replacement for a full meal, leaving essentially nothing out.

The abundance of vitamins and minerals included in Huel product are a fantastic addition to a great product. Huel made sure to include 80% of the recommended Vitamin C daily consumption amount, which is very important for immune health. You’ll also get 40% Magnesium and other essential minerals.

Huel contains a good source of Choline (25% per serving), which is an essential nutrient very similar in structure to Vitamin B Complex. It’s necessary to consume a sufficient amount through diet and is important for brain health, healthy nerves, muscles, and the liver as well. (1)

What’s really cool about Huel is the additional facts included on the label with Omega 3 (3.6g), Omega 6 (4.1g) and Medium Chain Triglycerides (1.4g) grams per serving information.

Huel Real Food Ingredients

You already know by now that Huel’s mission is to provide actual real food sources for their meal replacement supplements. These include Ultra Fine Oats, Brown Rice Protein, Pea Protein, Flaxseed and MCTs from Coconut.

Now, I was happy to see that the first ingredients on the package were good, real food sources from plants. These ingredients do look quite different than your average meal replacement but being a vegan alternative, it’s fantastic!

Besides the real food sources, there are of course artificial ingredients to make the product taste palatable (Stevia and Sucralose) due to the fact Huel is a plant-based protein. Now, most people don’t enjoy artificial flavoring but my palette may not be as picky.

Huel Benefits and Uses

Huel is ideal for anyone considering we all need consistent, proper nutrition. Whether you’re a bodybuilder, track runner, or a Doctor… you can benefit from the complete nutritional profile of Huel. If you’re active, you need to be sure you’re getting in plenty of essential vitamins and minerals to replace what you lose during your activities.

With 37 grams of protein and 47 grams of carbs per serving, you’ll get enough protein to build and maintain muscle mass. The complex carbs from “real foods,” will supply the fuel sources you need, to keep moving at your desired pace.

High-intensity activity without proper nutrition will leave you in a position of compromised health and performance.

Omega 3’s and Omega 6’s are essential fatty acids which we need for proper brain health. A balance of the two is essential as too much Omega 6 is dangerous and we generally need more Omega 3’s to protect the joints and heart while supporting a healthy mood. (2)

So with all the great nutritional benefits of Huel, it was a no-brainer to try it out.

Price of Huel

For $75 you get 28 servings with Huel and this equates to about $2.68 per serving which is very reasonable considering the quality, real foods in the product.

It’s convenient and you also get a shaker bottle and booklet which is pretty neat. The only downside is many people may not want to buy the two bags of meal replacement powder. Other than that, the price really is not bad considering Huel is a very good meal alternative.

My Opinion on the Taste of Huel

This is where many people differ. I’m a Vanilla fan (Plus, I wanted to try the chocolate flavor boost) so I chose it for the review. The flavor was decent enough to drink down but not the best (It’s a plant-based meal replacement). You get a slightly nutty flavor with the Vanilla flavoring so if you like Stevia and Splenda, you’ll be alright with the taste.

The chocolate boost was in fact, just that. A boost of cocoa flavor with artificial ingredients to give it a touch of chocolate flavor (Not quite a chocolate flavor entirely).

Vanilla, unsweetened unflavored, Gluten-free Vanilla and Gluten-free unflavored are the options you can choose, so it really comes down to personal preference.

The flavor boost options include Chocolate, Strawberry, Banana, Chocolate Mint, Mocha, Apple Cinnamon, Caramel and Chia (The options are pretty great).

Overall, the taste is doable and you can mix it with other things too for added flavor.

My Rating of Huel Meal Replacement

Quality of Product – 9/10

As far as the ingredients are concerned, Huel deserves a 5 but taken into consideration the artificial ingredients, the rating is justified. Huel contains a great profile of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals so it’s incredible in that regard.

The calories, protein, carbs, and fats are on point for the macronutrients and the Omega 3’s and 6s were a great addition to the product. So with that being said, it’s a great nutritionally complete meal replacement option.

Taste – 8.5/10

Not bad for a plant-based supplement but a lot of people also complain about the flavor. It’s a subjective matter but the chocolate boost may make it more enjoyable. The nut flavor with Vanilla flavoring and other artificial sweeteners is not for everyone. The flavor options like mentioned previously are Vanilla, unsweetened unflavored, Gluten-free Vanilla and Gluten-free unflavored.

Mixability – 7/10

You can shake it up and be fine drinking it down but it just leaves a little grittiness. The texture is OK but again, you can mix with other things to get a decent texture. Although, it’s not super clumpy or anything like that.

Final Thoughts

Was Huel impressive enough to meet my expectations for a full-on, nutritionally-capable meal replacement? As far as the quality and benefits of Huel, it was more than satisfactory and met my expectations.

Like mentioned before, the taste was decent and many people would agree there could be improvements there. Huel does a good job of supplying your every need regarding nutritional value and it’s a great meal replacement supplement.

If you’re a health-conscious person who wants a vegan alternative to your standard dairy-based meal replacement, then look no further than Huel. However, it may not be for everyone but there’s a lot you could possibly gain by at least giving it a try!
