On February 12th, the Stoltman brothers uploaded a video showcasing West’s experience and progress on their YouTube channel.
The Strongman sport involves several challenges that test the competitors’ strength, endurance, and resilience. Jesse James West’s Venture Into Strongman
Jesse James West traveled all the way to Scotland just to get the full experience of what Luke and Tom Stoltman go through. So, the first task of the day was to take an extremely icy plunge into the North Sea shortly after sunrise.
He really wanted to experience the real cold water swims that we do… Jesse had such good energy about him and throughout the whole day that was carried on from the cold water swim,” said Luke Stoltman.
The Stoltmans then started off the workout by teaching Jesse James West the basics of the Log Lift. While they helped him get some bigger weights up, the Stoltmans also performed their own training session, that is multiple working sets with a 140-kilogram (308.6-pound) log. On the other hand, Jesse James West managed to perform some sinless with a 90-kilogram (198.4-pound) log.
“I got a PR of my life, 90 kilograms… So, that is insane. It is more than my overhead press with a barbell. I don’t know where it came from, but I will have to dedicate it to these boys (Tom and Luke),” said Jesse.
The trio then worked on their shoulder strength using the dumbbell overhead press, another Strongman movement. Following extensive instruction, Jesse James West prepared himself with elbow sleeves and a lifting belt before taking on the 50-kilogram (110-pound) dumbbell. Despite multiple attempts, he wasn’t able to break through the sticking point. However, during his final attempt, Jesse managed to lock out the massive dumbbell over his head.
“So that was a great effort from Jesse. He failed quite a lot of times in the dumbbell and on his very final effort he managed to pop it above his head,” summarised Luke.
Next on the docket, is the Frame Carry, a Challenging Display of Speed and Grip for Strongman Athletes. The video montage of Jesse James West performing the exercise with a 200-kilogram (440.9-pound) frame. Seeing that he was shirtless, all of his upper body muscles were popping out, displaying his physique in the greatest light possible.
“Jesse absolutely smashed the frame carry. He went up to 200 kilos and it looked like it was really easy. So my hat goes off to Jesse, well done,” said Luke.
Finally, the Stoltmans instructed Jesse James West on how to push a truck. Tom and Luke first demonstrated how to perform the exercise with multiple men sitting in the truck. The time then came for Jesse to try it out. To the surprise of the attendees, Jesse looked like a natural, pushing the truck over the pavement with relative ease.
“That was hard, really difficult. I didn’t expect it to be that difficult. I feel like my testosterone just raised a little bit,” said Jesse.

Seeing that Jesse James West has proved that his abilities in powerlifting and bodybuilding are quite impressive, it’s no surprise that he was a natural in Strongman as well. In addition, Jesse had the two greatest mentors that he could have wished for, as Luke and Tom Stoltman are amongst the greatest Strongman athletes of all time.
As for the Stoltman brothers, they are currently preparing for the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic, which is set to take place on March 3-4 in Columbus, Ohio. Just less than two months after that, the Stoltman brothers will take part in the 2023 World’s Strongest Man contest, where Tom will try to claim his third consecutive title.
