The Middle East hosted the always-exciting 2023 Dubai Pro on September 24 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This was an Olympia-qualifying event for competitors in Men’s 212 Bodybuilding, Classic Physique, and Men’s Physique divisions.
This season of bodybuilding is reaching its peak as athletes from around the world battle in hopes of guaranteeing a qualification to this year’s Mr. Olympia. The 2023 Mr. Olympia competition will see the globe’s top bodybuilders vying for cash, bragging rights, and of course, the most coveted title in the sport.
With the point system shelved by the IFBB Pro League, athletes were presented with a more challenging task this year: win a Pro show or miss out on competing at Mr. Olympia. The pressure was on for competitors this weekend as there are limited opportunities to qualify in the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding, Classic Physique, and Men’s Physique classes.

Men’s 212 Bodybuilding

Classic Physique
This Classic Physique showdown turned into a razor-close battle between finalists Fabio Junio Ramos Vale and former two-time Arnold Classic champion Terrence Ruffin. Fabio Junio Ramos Vale displayed not just top-notch conditioning but a sculpted back, making many of his rear poses quite dominant when standing next to his adversaries. Ramos entered this show brimming with confidence as he last succeeded in first place in July at the 2023 Xtreme Bodybuilding Pro Mexico show.
Pressure was certainly weighing heavy on Ruffin this weekend as his appearance on the 2023 Olympia stage likely hinged on this performance. Ruffin last took to the stage at the 2022 Olympia last December, where he turned in a sixth-place finish, a surprising outcome given his accolades. In the end, “Ruff Diesel” pulled off the victory in Dubai, in what was deemed an incredibly close battle by many fans, who insist it could have gone either way.

- Third Place — Wesley Vissers

Men’s Physique
The 2023 Dubai Pro featured an absolutely stacked Men’s Physique lineup. When it was time to step on stage, prejudging saw Abisai Pietersz’s conditioning and wide back impress the judges early, and they kept him close to center stage as a result. Pietersz’s last show saw him place outside the top 15 at the 2022 Olympia competition, won by Erin Banks.
Adeyemi Awoyemi also appeared eager to win gold and the cash prize. With shape, proportions, and muscle detail, picking a winner proved to be difficult tonight. Competing last weekend at the 2023 Europa Pro Championships, Awoyemi has kept active and his physique looked fresh and full during the finals. In the end, Adeyemi Awoyemi pulled off the big win in Dubai! Abisai Pietersz picked up second place and Youseff Hassan placed third.
