Mark Bell has made a great transition to bodybuilding placed 1st in the master’s heavyweight class bodybuilding show!
The 41-year old former super heavyweight powerlifter Mark Bell set a new goal for himself to become a bodybuilder and to compete in a bodybuilding show in 2018. The veteran powerlifter successfully achieves his goal by placing 1st in his first ever bodybuilding show this past weekend.
It’s crazy seeing the transformation of the 41-year-old Mark Bell, especially when you keep in mind, he has benched over 800 lbs, squatted over 1000 lbs and has competed in four powerlifting categories in his career. Mark put all this behind and brought his body fat down to single digits.
“330lbs to 230lbs.”
Mark Bell made his bodybuilding debut this past Saturday at the Golden State Championships and won his heavyweight master’s class and placed second in the open category.

Mark Bell shares this whole experience in an Instagram post:
“Heading into this weekend, I didn’t have many expectations. And seeing one show beforehand, I still didn’t have a clue. Do you know what it takes to make a show like this happen? I’ll get to the training later but the tan….and there are glazers! No not donuts sweetheart but they do get in your holes for sure…

You walk into a room full of chicks ready to spray you down, just when you think you’ve stripped down to the bare minimum when they ask you, “do you have a sock?” “It doesn’t cause lines” that’s right, you put a sock on while they get in the creases and crevices of your body #heynow Then backstage, don’t forget they have someone glazing you down before you walk on to make sure things really POP.

I was originally registered to participate in Classic Physique and Bodybuilding. Check in didn’t go quite as planned, which is fine BUT I ended up being 30 lbs over the allotted weight for someone of my height. When I stepped on the scale, they told me I was 235 lbs. I said “that’s great” and there response was in horror… “no not great, you can’t compete in classic” you can see where powerlifting and bodybuilding backgrounds don’t align in my head. I ended up competing in men’s physique with the shorts I wore that day and learning the pose an hour beforehand.

Then popped up on stage after getting a quick pump in and let rip the only way I know how — all in.

I ended up walking away with 3rd place in the Two Physique classes I was in and 1st place in the Masters bodybuilding and 2nd in the Open class.

Beyond thank you to my wife that was with me every step of the way, helping with meals and being there when I couldn’t be. The army of individuals at Golds Gym That picked me up and supported me. My mom and Dad for raising such a savage. My @mbslingshot team back home that kept the place running while I was getting shredded. Last but not least, my coach @hanyrambod. He was there for all the dumb questions and support the entire way

All of these things were all weird and new to me, but I was all in.
