The 2025 Strongest Man On Earth competition is taking place on August 16-17 in Loveland, Colorado. While it is mostly all positive, some bad news came out after day one, since some athletes were forced to withdraw. One of those is Bobby Thompson, who concluded his appearance after completing multiple events.
Bobby Thompson’s best event of the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth was actually the opening one — Max Log Lift. He locked out 193 kilograms (425.5 pounds) to finish in 10th place. He followed that up with 14th and 12th place finishes in the Frame into Arm-Over-Arm and Keg Toss events, respectively.
The reason for Bobby Thompson’s withdrawal is unclear. However, it is worth mentioning that he looked unwell after practically all events on day one of the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth. Bobby even seemingly passed out at one point, which might have pushed him to withdraw from the competition and take care of his health first.

Bobby Thompson is not the only athlete who withdrew from the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth after day one. Shane Flowers is another athlete who made the decision to pull out. The reason for his withdrawal was an unfortunate Lat Tear during the warm-up for the Manhood Stones. So, it is clear that the events at the 2025 SMOE are brutal.
Rayno Nel and Mitchell Hooper might have recognized that weeks in advance, as they both withdrew from the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth. Rayno decided to pull out since he didn’t believe that he had enough time to prepare. On the other hand, Hooper was on a streak of bad results, which prompted him to cancel all plans and take an early off-season.
Hafthor Bjornsson also received an invitation to compete at the 2025 Strongest Man On Earth, but quickly decided not to accept it. As it turned out, he was preparing for a Deadlift World Record attempt. Ultimately, Hafthor was successful in achieving his goal, having set a new 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) record at the 2025 Eisenhart Black Competition.
Bobby Thompson has earned some remarkable results throughout his career. That includes winning the 2022 America’s Strongest Man and holding the American Log Lift Record for four years. However, he has also had his share of injuries and other setbacks, which left a big impact on his body and ability to perform.
Bobby Thompson stepped out of the competition for a precautionary measure, though the exact reason is not known. Even so, he had an impressive time on the floor, lifting huge weights and going head-to-head with some of the strongest men in history.
