Wellness competitor Angela Borges has decided to step out of the 2023 Olympia. She intends to focus more on life goals other than competitive success. Olympia is the most prestigious professional bodybuilding competition. Its 2023 chapter takes place from Nov.3-5 in Orlando, Florida, USA. Borges’ withdrawal from the show can shake up the division’s rankings considerably given her competitive ability and proven track record.

Angela Borges is one of the foremost female competitors coming from Brazil. Over the last seven years, she has competed in several pro shows. The Brazilian is also one of the pioneers in the Wellness division of the IFBB Pro League.

Wellness features female competitors with athletic physiques that showcase more muscle mas in the hips, glutes and thigh areas. To put in perspective, the division demands more muscle mass than the Bikini division. However, muscle definition expected is less than Fitness or Women’s Physique divisions. The division was incorporated into Olympia in the year 2021.

Angela Borges became the first Wellness competitor to qualify for the 2021 Olympia with a win at the 2021 Pittsburgh Pro on May 1, 2021. She has been a top contender of the division for a long time before the division’s incorporation in Olympia and has several wins and podium finishes on the biggest bodybuilding platforms.

In her 2021 Olympia debut, Borges finished second behind the inaugural winner Francielle Mattos. She repeated the runner-up finish at the 2022 Arnold Classic as well and capped the competitive season with a third-place finish at the 2022 Olympia. The Brazilian made a quick turnaround at the 2023 Arnold Classic in March and missed the win by a narrow margin, walking away with another runner-up finish.

Angela Borges announces the decision to not compete at the 2023 Olympia

Borges is capable of winning the Wellness Olympia title with little bit adjustments. She has looked to be in a phenomenal shape in all of her social media posts off late. But in spite of a legit chance at winning, she has decided to withdraw from the 2023 Olympia.

The Brazilian bodybuilder has a growing career as a fitness coach. Additionally, she is involved in other business ventures as well. In a descriptive Instagram post, Angela Borges shed light on the reasons for her withdrawal from the competition and wrote:

“This year in addition to improving my physique, I have chosen to devote more to my businesses, my graduate students, and especially the thousands of @team_angelaborges students on my platform. Also to the courses and trainings that I conduct all over Brazil and the world. My social media is a reflection of the work I’ve been doing, seeking to help women not only change their body composition, but get out of obesity, anorexia, depression, low esteem, and other diseases of the body and mind. This is my goal to which I will devote myself more every day. Shape photos can serve as inspiration, I know, but my responsibility, knowledge and experience do not allow me to deliver so little, educate and raise awareness, but it changes lives, this is my legacy.”

Borges will be present at the 2023 Olympia but not as  a competitor. She intends to support her team by being at the venue.
