Joe Weider (November 29, 1919 – March 23, 2013) is one of the most recognizable and legendary names in the bodybuilding and fitness industry. Weider co-founded the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) with his brother Ben, was the creator of Olympia weekend, and introduced one of the most well-known workout equipment and nutritional supplement brands that are still popular today. It’s safe to say he created one of the most iconic legacies that will live on forever.

In honor of the late Canadian bodybuilder and Entrepreneur Joe Weider, we’ve gathered a list of what we believe to be the best Joe Weider home gyms on the market today.

These workout machines are designed to train several muscle groups and replicate the gym experience but all in the comfort of your own training space. In this article, we’ve included a handpicked selection of home gym options at various price points and we’re always excited to talk about and highlight the unique features between our favorite offerings.

Top Joe Weider Home Gyms to Buy

1. Weider Gym Bench & Squat Rack (WEBE18020) Editor’s Choice

If you want a great bang for your buck then we recommend the Weider bench press and squat rack combo. For less than $300 it’s hard to beat. Don’t expect commercial gym quality performance but for the price it offers a lot of value.

This setup includes a lot of useful features including an adjustable utility bench for chest and upper body training that inclines and declines for training variety and to hit the muscles from different angles. There’s also an Olympic-width squat rack to build and strengthen the leg muscles using compound exercises, a preacher curl station to train your biceps, a leg extension for quads workouts, and it even has pegs to store weight plates with an Olympic weight plate sleeve adapter. That means you can store the 1″ and 2″ weight plates which is very convenient.

Note: Keep in mind that you have to select this option before purchasing as there are multiple pieces to choose from.

Weight capacity: 610-lb bench, 310-lb capacity rack

Pros

  • Great performance for the price
  • Has various training stations to train all muscle groups
  • Has plate storage to keep your space tidy and safe
  • Includes an exercise chart

Cons

  • Few complaints about sturdiness
  • Bench does not seem ideal for taller people
  • May need an Olympic barbell due to narrower bench rack
  • Rack weight capacity is a little disappointing but decent for most lifters

Who Is This For?

This home gym is best for people who like to train using freeweights to perform exercises such as barbell and dumbbell bench press, barbell squats and more. The spotter arms are adjustable and the bench allows for a lot of training versatility seeing as you can use it to do incline and decline presses which is perfect for hitting the chest from different angles.

2. Weider Power Tower

Weider Power Tower
Weider Power Tower

Everyone needs a good power tower in their home gym. That’s because they are simple in design yet proven (found in almost all commercial gyms), don’t take up a whole lot of space, and typically have multiple workout stations for bodyweight dips and pull-ups, leg raises/ab work, and elevated or incline push-ups.

Build Muscle at Home: The Ultimate Power Tower Workout

One really good thing about these machines and why we really love them is because you can also use a dipping belt, weighted backpack, or hold a dumbbell between your feet and you can also progress and get stronger.

It’s also padded on the back and where the forearms rest during leg lifts and there are elevated foot pegs to assist you into position for leg lifts.

If you want a simple option for bodyweight training then we highly recommend this power tower.

Weight capacity: 300 lbs

Dimensions: 53.15L x 43.31W x 86.61 inchesH

Pros

  • Smaller and easier to move around compared to cable machine home gyms
  • Great price for what you get
  • Great for bodyweight training
  • Easy to add more resistance
  • 300 lb weight capacity

Cons

  • Does not off anything for lower body training
  • You need to be able to lift your own bodyweight to use it
  • Few complaints about damaged parts likely from shipping process
  • Some found it a little flimsy or wobbly

Who Is This For?

This power tower is great for many reasons. You don’t need any weights to get a good workout, it’s easy to add more resistance, it has a smaller footprint, and it’s usually cheaper than cable machines and other home gyms. Not to mention, you can move it around much more easily and train wherever you want to.

3. Weider 2980 X

Weider 2980 X Weight System
Weider 2980 X Weight System

So now this is more along the lines of what most people think a “home gym” is. Although that doesn’t necessarily make it any more of a home gym compared to the other options on this list.

It has a lat pulldown station to work the back muscles, a pec dec and chest press option for the chest muscles, a preacher bench and a leg extension. The weight stack is 80 lbs although it supposedly provides up to 200 lbs of resistance. While it may not take long for a lot of users to max it out rather quickly, it can provide enough challenge for other movements.

All in all this may be best suited for those under 6 foot tall and who are beginner exercisers or if you want a decent machine to get a good pump without breaking the wallet.

Weight capacity: 300 lbs

Dimensions: 65L x 37W x 76 inchesH

Pros

  • Weight stack allows for progressive overload
  • Has multiple stations
  • Two options for chest training
  • Offers a good value overall

Cons

  • Does not seem suitable for taller people
  • Weight stack may be too light for some users
  • Few complaints about design/functionality

Who Is This For?

We all have our preferences when it comes to training equipment. While using a cable home gym design such as this one isn’t the best option for functional workouts especially compared to the other home gyms on this list, it’s good for those who may not have the best balance or stability.

Freeweights require you to focus on stabilizing and lifting the weights at the same time whereas using machines lock you in and eliminate the balancing act.

But make no mistake, you can still build some muscle and strength using this type of machine. As long as you’re progressively increasing the reps and the weight you’ll keep seeing results.

However, when it comes to most exercises using this machine, the stack won’t be sufficient for those who have been training for a while.

We’d even say this may be a good choice for beginners and intermediate exercisers.

4. Weider XRS 20 Home Gym

Weider XRS 20
Weider XRS 20

Last but certainly not least, the Weider XRS 20 is a solid bench press and squat rack combo. The squat rack is an independent piece from the bench and preacher setup that is also used to support the bar during bench presses. These are totally adjustable which is to be expected as users are of different heights.

The adjustable 5-position bench can be used apart from the rack to comfortably perform dumbbell exercises for chest, back, triceps, and so much more. There’s also a leg extension station connected to the bench for quad training.

We really like the fact that there’s a preacher curl yoke attachment and it therefore functions more like a machine than having to use free weights for this station.

Overall, this is a decent home gym that offers some unique features.

Dimensions: 65″ H x 49.5″ W x 73″ L

Pros

  • Many found the assembly to be easy
  • Preacher curl yoke attachment is a great addition
  • Independent squat rack is convenient
  • Adjustable bench offers more training versatility

Cons

  • Have to use an Olympic bar; not compatible with standard barbells
  • Sturdy assembly may require a little handiness

Who Is This For?

This quality bench is the right choice for freeweight enthusiasts of different heights. The squat station can function independent from the bench and preacher curl pad for more training versatility. We also really like the yoke attachment that replicates a preacher curl machine. However, it’s also detachable so you can use dumbbells and a barbell to train the biceps muscles.

What To Consider Before Purchasing A Home Gym

Home gyms come in various sizes, designs, and price points and these are all things to consider before making a purchase.

Let’s go a little more into detail regarding what to look for to ensure you’re happy with your choice.

Features

If you don’t really know what to look for then hopefully we can help. But it’s important to have an idea of the exercises you’d like to do using your home gym.

Do you plan to do squats and bench presses and use more free weights for training? In that case, we recommend one of the bench and squat combos such as our Editor’s pick which we listed as the first option.

Maybe you want to focus more on doing bodyweight movements and don’t want all the cables and complex design/functionality of a cable home gym machine. Then you should probably choose the power tower.

But some people like the comfort and convenience of having a cable weight stack that they can sit on and perform machine-only exercises such as lat pulldown, pec dec, chest press and leg extension. We included the Weider 2980 home gym if you prefer these features over the others.

Space

This one is very important especially if you have to consider where you’ll fit the home gym because of limited space. If you have a garage or large area then it really doesn’t matter and in fact we’d recommend getting a bench and squat combo, a power tower, and possibly even a cable home gym machine. That way you’ll have many different workout options and it’ll definitely prevent training boredom.

Typically, a power tower takes up less space than either the bench and squat rack combos and cable machine setup. It’s also more portable and easier to move around.

We recommend double checking the dimensions of the home gym to ensure you have the room to accommodate it.

Quality

So this is usually correlated to how much a home gym costs. You have to expect that price determines quality for the most part. That does not mean a cheaper option is no good though. But you may not get top-tier sturdiness, ease of assembly, the most ergonomic design and functionality or the most features. A cheaper price may also mean that the quality of parts aren’t the greatest either.

Make sure that whatever home gym you decide to go with, the weight capacity will stand up to your own weight and the amount of weight you’ll be using to train with. This is mainly to ensure your safety. We’ve included the recommended weight capacity for every home gym that we included.

User feedback

Sometimes it really does help to see what other people say about a specific product. While it’s good to know that most users were satisfied with their purchase, sometimes there are common issues that you should be aware of.
