Blaine Sumner is regarded as one of the world’s strongest powerlifter. He certainly earned that moniker over the weekend, by shattering a ton of world records.
Colorado’s own Sumner is truly beining to establish a legendary resume in the world of IPF Powerlifting. Competing in the 120kg division, he has put together a string of performances, the likes of which are incredible. Over the course of his 14-year long career, he has compiled a slew of victories in meets such as the RAW Nationals, and the World Powerlifting Championships.
However the performance we got from Blaine over the weekend, may have been his best one yet. At the Arnold Grand Prix by SBD, a powerlifting during the Arnold Sports Festival, Sumner went 6/9 on his lifts, culminating in a 2,987lb/1,296kg total. This total, as well as his squat and bench press, led to him walking away with an astounding 3 IPF World Records.
This was Blaine Sumner’s numbers from the weekend:
- Squat – 1,135lbs/515kg (IPF World Record)
- Bench Press – 939lbs/426kg (IPF World Record)
- Deadlift – 782lbs/355kg
- Total – 2,987lbs/1,296kg (IPF World Record)
Although all of these lifts were impressive in their own right, perhaps the best was the 1,135lb squat Sumner hit. It was not an easy lift to say the least, which is to be expected. Despite stumbling a bit as he walked out the weight, per IPF standards, he kept his cool and pulled off the record-shattering lift.

As amazing as that squat was, it was just the cherry on top of an epic weekend for Blaine Sumner. Moreover, it was clear that he did not let the distractions of a wild week deter him from a strong performance. On top of that, he got to compete alongside his wife, who participated in bodybuilding over the weekend.
“For the 3rd year in a row my wife @figurebarbie and I both competed at the @arnoldsports festival. I’m ready to get back to Wyoming and heal up, wait for the lakes to thaw out so I can get on the boat for some fishing, and start training for the next competition!”
It is truly difficult to overstate how impressive Blaine Sumner looked over the weekend. He put together a string of performances which reiterate how special of an athlete he is.
