With just hours until contenders storm the 2023 Mr. Olympia stage, athletes were checking in ahead of the biggest competition of the year. However, during the press conference, it was revealed that Brandon Curry was possibly out of the 2023 Mr. Olympia show due to illness and was reportedly rushed to the hospital. While his participation was in question, Brandon Curry will compete at the 2023 Mr. Olympia.

In updates made available by Nick’s Strength and Power on YouTube, Brandon Curry has been cleared to compete at this year’s Mr. Olympia contest. Further details about his hospitalization can be found below:

“I just spoke directly with Brandon’s coach Abdullah, and we’ve got an update. So he filled me in a little bit more on the situation with Brandon. Brandon was hospitalized. And from the description that Abdullah gave me, it sounded more like Brandon was choking on something or whatever he ate scratched his esophagus and that’s why he was coughing up blood.

I don’t know if he actually had food poisoning in his digestive track or an issue with his stomach. It sounded more like it was something specifically with his throat and Abdullah also assured me that 100% Brandon will be competing tomorrow at prejudging,” shared from the Nick’s Strength and Power channel.

“That’s why he missed the press conference today and the athlete check-in meeting yesterday. It sounds like again from Abdullah’s description, it was nothing super serious. It was it sounded like again something with his throat if I understand correctly what he was saying. It sounds like he’s fine now, he’s out of the hospital, he’s recovering.”

Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay was forced to pull out of the 2023 Mr. Olympia show months ago. Then, tragedy struck earlier this week when Nick “The Mutant” Walker had to withdraw as well due to a severe hamstring tear.

While fans thought the last-minute drama was over, Bob Cicherillo had announced that Brandon Curry, a former 2019 Mr. Olympia, was possibly out of the event, which is what led to rumors circulating online about his possible absence.

“He was unsure if he was going to be able to compete. It does not look like that’s going to work out for him this year, but of course, we wish Brandon a speedy recovery. Also, he will be here this weekend in attendance, so be sure to visit him as you get yourself around the expo,” Cicherillo said.

Many competitors have bowed out of this year’s Olympia competition. However, Curry plans to give it his all in pursuit of winning back the coveted Sandow trophy. The 2023 Mr. Olympia competition is from November 2-5 in Orlando, Florida inside the Orange County Convention Center.

It’s been a wild few days in the world of bodybuilding, and with Curry’s latest health scare, fans are eager for the festivities to begin. We at Fitness Volt look forward to providing you with an in-depth analysis of the Men’s Open and all other categories over this weekend!
