Vegan diets are quickly becoming a more popular trend in bodybuilding. The most recent people to give it a try are YouTube bodybuilders The Buff Dudes.

For a long time, it was thought that a vegan diet is not effective for bodybuilders. The Buff Dudes, real names Hudson and Brandon White, were among that list. However, with films like The Game Changers, people are starting to be more open to a plant-based diet.

Following in the footsteps of Kai Greene, The Buff Dudes decided to give a vegan diet a try. In a recent video to their YouTube channel, they detail the process as they try a plant-based diet for 30 days. They were curious on what the result would be on their physique, as well as their gym performance.

Starting off the video, you can see the Buff Dudes doing their grocery shopping. They get the typical things one would get for a vegan diet: fruits and veggies, rice and beans, etc. Additionally, they explain a bit about why they are choosing to do this. On top of that, Brandon goes into detail about how some people’s biggest fear about a vegan diet for bodybuilding is a lack of protein. However, he explains that the foods he is getting are high in protein, despite being vegetables.

As they go through the challenge, the Buff Dudes seem happy with the results they are getting. On the other hand, one thing that they do not care for is the flatulence. One of the most common byproducts of a plant-based diet, is an increased amount of gas. It’s so bad that they choose to confine themselves to their home gym, instead of torturing others in public.

Nevertheless, as far as gym results go, the Buff Dudes could not be happier. This is what Hudson had to say about his progress:

“I’m pretty happy with my gym so far, the progress. I think, in a way, having a little bit of additional carbs has really helped me. I feel fuller, very full, very pumped in the gym, and I know a lot of you, when you get used to, or even addicted to the feeling of the pump, it’s pretty damn cool. So, really no problems there. I feel big after every workout, and my strength levels really haven’t decreased, which is great.”

By the end of the challenge, although they are not dissatisfied with the results, the Buff Dudes decided they would not continue with a vegan diet. However what the challenge did, was help them understand some changes they could make to their diets, implementing more greens and beans. All in all, it was a pretty big challenge, but they completed it.
