Daiki Kodama is one of the most iconic powerlifting figures in history when it comes to the bench press. He has been dominating the scene for two decades, with his most recent appearance coming at the 2024 IPF World Classic & Equipped Bench Press Championships. The competition is taking place from May 21st to June 1st in Texas, USA, but Daiki’s 83-kilogram weight class has already finished their campaign. As expected, Daiki walked away with the gold medal and a 231-kilogram (509.3-pound) Bench Press IPF World Record.

Daiki Kodama opened up at a weight of 210 kilograms (463 pounds), which was far off from what his one rep max was. So, for his second bench press attempt, he jumped up to 220 kilograms (485 pounds), thus setting an unbeatable mark for all of his rivals. In turn, this lift secured him the gold medal.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Daiki Kodama decided to load a record-breaking 231 kilograms (509.3 pounds) for his third and final attempt. He looked extremely confident and relaxed walking out on the platform, proving why he is considered one of the greatest bench pressers to ever compete. Consequently, Daiki executed the bench without any flaws, receiving all three white lights and applause from the crowd. Moreover, he officially set a new U83KG IPF World Record.

*Daiki Kodama held the previous U83KG IPF Bench Press World Record of 230.5-kg (508.2-lb), which he set at the 2023 IPF World Classic & Equipped Bench Press Championships.

Moreover, Daiki beat the second-place finisher by a margin of 16 kilograms (35.3 pounds), which puts into perspective just how much stronger he is than any of his rivals.
