Devon Larratt is the most well-known arm wrestler in the world, a status he earned through decades of incredible performances at the highest level. Now at 50 years old, Devon still continues to battle against the best arm wrestlers in the world. Most recently, he took on Vitaly Laletin in a high-stakes match, which was the headline of the East vs West 23 card on April 18th in Germany. Larratt ended up taking the win in a dominant display of power and technique.
Devon Larratt vs. Vitaly Laletin Overview
Devon Larratt and Vitaly Laletin were involved in a left-hand match back in March, where the Russian arm wrestler secured a comfortable victory. However, this time, they were involved in a right-hand match and the outcome was completely different. Larratt showed impressive control on the table and won all except one round.
Round One
Devon Larratt shocked everyone when he walked out onto the stage, sporting an unusual haircut specifically for the match. While that brought out his humorous spirit, Larratt quickly switched his approach, resulting in a lot of tension on the table. As such, the judges had trouble getting the athletes in a neutral starting position, which prolonged the start of the match.
The start of the first round saw an explosive press from Vitaly Laletin. Nonetheless, before he was able to pin Devon’s hand, the Canadian arm wrestler slipped from the grip, which prompted a restart of the round. Once the strap was put on, Vitaly opted to go for a press, while Devon defended with a King’s Move. However, Devon ended up committing an elbow foul, causing another restart. As if that wasn’t intense enough, Vitaly also committed a foul, causing a third restart, resulting in a very long first round. Nonetheless, the round concluded with Vitaly getting the pin on Larratt.
Round Two
The second round started very similarly, as Devon Larratt got an elbow foul, but their hands slipped once they re-engaged. So, from this point onward, the strap was mandatory. Once the round continued with the straps, Vitaly’s elbow moved from the pad, leaving him with one foul as well.
With both men on one foul, neither could afford to make another mistake. Devon Larratt pivoted his strategy, utilizing the Top Roll technique that proved to be highly effective. While the action was unfolding, Devon started playing mind games with Vitaly, telling him “Break You!” in the middle of the match. That clearly worked since Devon pinned Vitaly’s arm and leveled the score.
Round Three
Both men were left exhausted after the first two rounds, but Devon Larratt had a bit more left in the tank. Devon went straight into a Hook, which seemed to surprise Vitaly a bit. Seeing that he is in control of the match, Devon started taunting Vitaly and kept inching closer toward the pin pad. As a result, Larratt took the lead with a score of 2-1.
Round Four
Devon Larratt continued to surprise everyone, deciding to utilize the Press technique to flash pin Vitaly. This proved just how deep his arsenal is, as he is comfortable using any approach against one of the greatest arm wrestlers in the world. Consequently, Devon extended his lead to 3-1.
Round Five
The last round saw Devon Larratt use another new technique against Vitaly Laletin. Specifically, he went for a Flop Press, letting his wrist go back and putting his entire body behind his arm. Laletin ended up committing a foul. Once the round was restarted, Devon got a quick pin with the flop press and took the win with a score of 4-1.
Final Score: Devon Larratt (4) – (1) Vitaly Laletin
