Dolph Lundgren, renowned for his powerhouse roles in action films like Rocky IV and The Expendables, is no stranger to overcoming intense challenges on and off the screen. In a recent Instagram post shared on November 26, 2024, Lundgren revealed that he is cancer-free following a long and courageous fight with the debilitating disease.
Dolph Lundgren is a legend in the world of action films, known for his intimidating screen presence and physical prowess. With experience as a chemical engineer and martial artist, he was a man of many talents well before he stepped onto a movie set. However, his breakthrough role, which is most recognized, came when he played the menacing Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
Despite maintaining his fitness later in life and even training at the iconic Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach alongside his old co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lundgren received disheartening news in 2015 when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer.
Initially, the prognosis was grim, with doctors only giving him two to three years to live. However, Dolph Lundgren sought a second opinion and refused to give up, exploring every possible alternative to rid his body of cancer.

Actor Dolph Lundgren Gives Health Update at 67, Says He’s ‘Finally Cancer Free’
After countless rounds of trial and error, Lundgren, with the help of Oncologist Dr. Alexandra Drakaki, was able to identify the mutation, which allowed him to undergo medical treatment to eradicate the cancerous cells and then remove the tumors and scar tissue.
Now, Dolph Lundgren has taken to Instagram to share a health update, revealing that he is finally cancer-free.
“Health update – finally cancer free with gratefulness and excitement for a bright future. Thanks for all your support always. 🙏 “
Lundgren explained that he is currently undergoing surgery to have the final dead tumor removed from his body, which will be the end of this harrowing journey for the past nine years.
“Alright, here I am in UCLA about to go in and get rid of that last dead tumor, and since there are no cancer cells in my body anymore, then I guess I’ll be cancer-free, so I am looking forward to this procedure” Lundgren shared.
“A long oblation, that’s what I’m doing. It’s been a rough ride and it really taught me how to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of life. I mean, it’s the only way to go. Alright, they’re coming to get me. See ya.”
While it is phenomenal that Dolph Lundgren will now be cancer-free after all these years, he has speculated about what caused the debilitating disease in the first place. According to Lundgren, he believes there is a correlation between his steroid use in the 1980s and 1990s and his development of cancer later in life. Nevertheless, this theory has never been proven.
“I tried steroids back in the 1980s, 1990s… I don’t know if it has anything to do with cancer. Of course it struck me it could have had something to do with it.”
From the beginning, Lundgren has had a positive outlook on his grim diagnosis. He has used his battle with cancer as motivation to appreciate life to the fullest and not take a single thing for granted. His fans, as well as the team here at Fitness Volt, send our best wishes to Lundgren as he enjoys life cancer-free!
