The picture of health and as jacked as can be at 62, isn’t that what we’re all after? In a recent Instagram post, former six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates showed off his timeless physique while enjoying some sun at the beach. He also got in a training session with his daughter.
There was no denying Dorian Yates‘ dominance in the IFBB Pro League. In addition to crushing the dreams of countless aesthetic mainstays of the Open class, Yates persevered through several injuries including a torn bicep and tricep en route to cementing a one-of-a-kind legacy.
His grainy muscle hardness still serves as an inspiration to high-profile bodybuilders today, like Nick Walker, who would choose Yates as one of three athletes to face if he could go back in time. In retirement, Yates’ dedication to health and longevity fuels his daily life. From stem cell therapy to yoga and Pilates training sessions, ‘The Shadow’ doesn’t understate the importance of physical fitness.
Staying jacked at 62 is no easy feat, and luckily, we’ve heard from Yates on how he accomplished such a daunting challenge. He has opened up on his training split which he says only consists of one upper body and one lower body training session per week. Clearly, whatever Yates has been doing, is working wonders, judging by his youthfulness and energy levels.

30 years later and I suppose I can now train with my sunglasses on!😎

Although he sailed off into retirement as one of the most winningest Mr. Olympias ever, Yates never shies away from discussions about the Men’s Open category. He believes athletes in the top echelon of the Open class today lack calf and forearm definition. Additionally, he has explained why bringing your phone into the gym is the single worst thing you can do to affect progress.
But it’s not just gym etiquette that Dorian Yates is concerned with. He has also tackled the controversy surrounding steroids both in bodybuilding and outside of the sport, where performance-enhancing drugs have become commonplace for fitness influencers. On a similar note, the former six-time Mr. Olympia winner opened up on the dangerous epidemic of young men who lack sufficient testosterone levels.
Whether he is reflecting on past bodybuilding contests, PEDs, injuries, or extending an olive branch to competitors of today, Yates’ devotion to the sport is why he remains so revered and endeared among his fans. At 62 years old, he proves age is just a number and reminds all of us about what is possible with calculated training and careful nutrition.
