Nick Walker Retirement And Past Bodybuilders

Nick Walker paused his 2024 Mr. Olympia training for a moment to answer a few burning questions from fans. In an Instagram Q and A, he discussed the only two ways that he’d retire from bodybuilding and named three athletes from the past he’d like to compete against.

As one of the biggest names in the Men’s Open division, Nick Walker continues to raise eyebrows with next-level muscle volume, density, and vascular conditioning. Fans expected him to put those weapons to use on the Olympia stage last year until a disastrous hamstring and calf tear prevented him from participating. Instead, he watched from the sidelines as Derek Lunsford emerged as the sport’s first two-division Mr. Olympia.

Despite the setback, Walker bounced back in triumph at the 2024 New York Pro, earning his qualification for the biggest show of the year. With preparations reaching a new degree of intensity, Walker took a step back to discuss retirement down the line, along with a few fantasy match-ups that fans would be overjoyed to see unfold.

According to Walker, he would only retire from bodybuilding if he lacked the drive to compete or if his body could no longer handle the demands of the sport.

“No, I would keep going until I don’t want to compete anymore. There’s only two ways I’m going to retire: when I just don’t have the drive anymore or my body just says nah champ, not this year. But obviously, I want to win as many O’s as I can, as many Arnolds as I can, and just keep doing it.”

“As long as I’m having fun and we’re still progressing, I got goals and I’m going to achieve them.”

Walker’s List of Past Bodybuilders He’d Like to Compete Against

  • Dorian Yates
  • Mike Mentzer
  • Guy Cisternino

Aside from Jay Cutler, Walker would want to see how he stacked up against Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer, two bodybuilders known for their heavy-duty training styles. He also named Guy Cisternino, a close friend of his and retired 212 Bodybuilding talent.

“Dorian Yates, let’s see, Mike Mentzer, and probably Guy Cisternino. He may be old now but my man knows how to push people,” said Walker via Instagram stories.

Walker continues to march toward his third Mr. Olympia contest reenergized after failing to compete at the prestigious event last year. In preparation for a battle against the best, Walker implemented a Kevin Levrone ‘boot camp-style’ training routine. He relocated to Florida near his trainer Matt Jansen in the months leading up to the show. Levrone was also known for moving around for high-pressure contest preps.

Even if Walker leaves Sin City with his hand raised, bodybuilding fans can rest easy knowing he won’t be retiring anytime soon. On a different note: how do you think Walker would have fared against Yates, Mentzer, and Guy Cisternino if they were all on the same stage?
