After suspending his bodybuilding season due to injury, mass monster Michal ‘Krizo’ Krizanek is ready for redemption but will have to wait a while longer. In a recent YouTube video, Krizo revealed that he will have surgery on August 19 and believes the recovery process will take six weeks maximum. He also discussed his training limitations as a result of the shoulder injury.

Michal Krizo made his first appearance for the 2024 bodybuilding season at the Empro Classic Pro, which wasn’t surprising considering his success at this event last year. Unfortunately, Krizo didn’t fare so well this time around, earning a third-place finish behind William Bonac and Behrooz Tabani.

After failing to secure his ticket to the 2024 Mr. Olympia stage, Michal Krizo took to Instagram to break down exactly what went wrong. However, shortly after that, he revealed that he was concluding his 2024 bodybuilding season due to a shoulder injury.

Michal Krizo Announes Shoulder Surgery for August 19, Discusses Training Limitations

While Krizo made it clear he won’t be competing on the 2024 Mr. Olympia stage, he intends to qualify early for the 2025 Olympia at the EVLS Prague Pro this November. To stay on track, Michal Krizo remains consistent in the gym, although his workouts have been modified due to his injury. In a recent YouTube video, Krizo discussed his training limitations, detailing how he’s had to adapt.

“I train how a physiotherapist advised me to. So I train that which doesn’t hurt, whatever I am able to. No pressing movements at all.

Side laterals, I have also shown on my Instagram what degree I can do lateral raises up to, and I also do it with no weight essentially. I do this movement for about 20 repetitions, then when it starts burning I stop.”

He explains that pressing movements have become increasingly more difficult in general.

“I can do presses for front delts with about half or three quarters the weight I normally do. Rear delt exercises are fine too. But as I said, no presses for the chest. I can do seated chest press with elbows closer together.”

He admits back training has been largely affected by the injury as well.

“Biceps and triceps as regular. Back has some limitations. It’s not recommended for me to do pull downs and such. I can do rows for back depth with cable or anything else and I think I could probably do bent over rows too. I haven’t tried yet. And legs are fine.”

On August 19, Krizo intends to have surgery to correct all of these issues holding him back.

“I am having surgery on August 19. The recovery should take up to six weeks maximum. And after those six weeks, I should be able to go hard again.

I should be able to move the shoulder fully one week after the surgery. So after that one week, I should be able to train like I am right now. In this mode and I can’t wait. I wish It was over already.”

Krizo gives a more in-depth explanation of what exactly is wrong with his shoulder.

“Many people have been asking what exactly is wrong with the shoulder. So to explain in more detail..they say there’s too much muscle tissue there that are pressing against the impingement. There’s a space where the tendon moves and the tendon gets inflamed because when I do this movement it compresses and there’s not enough space left. So they need to create more space there so it’s not in the way when it compresses.”

He explains what doctors intend to do in surgery to repair his shoulder.

“They will have to grind off the tendon a bit too and clean it up because it’s inflamed, even corticoids wouldn’t help there. They’ll do it arthroscopically, so there will be one hole and here another one and here if you can see it on camera.”

Michal Krizo made sure to clear the air regarding the bulge he has on his shoulder, expressing that it is not synthol, instead, it’s some sort of fluid that needs to be drained.

“The bulge here, that’s also caused by it. They need to drain it. They say mountains could grow there if they don’t drain it. It’s not synthol. It’s some fluid, I don’t know what it’s called. Some wax, ear wax” Krizo joked.

While it is unfortunate that Michal Krizo won’t be gracing the 2024 Mr. Olympia stage, fans still have several Men’s Open superstars to look forward to. This includes the showdown between the current champion Derek Lunsford and former titleholder Hadi Choopan, which promises to go down in history as the rivalry for the ages.

Additionally, Nick Walker will finally be able to take a shot at redemption following last year’s calf and hamstring tear that took him out of the competition. Samson Dauda will be returning this year with a new gym behind him, leaving fans excited to see the improvements he brings to the stage.

The 2024 bodybuilding season is just starting to heat up and will continue to in the weeks to come. While there are under 12 weeks til the Mr. Olympia, so much can happen until then so be sure to follow us here at Fitness Volt to stay up to date on all things bodybuilding. We wish Krizo a speedy recovery!
