There’s no stopping Dorian Yates, who is recovering from a recent setback. In an Instagram post shared on December 20, 2024, he updated fans on his physiotherapy session as he aims to recover from a total right hip replacement surgery.
As a six-time Mr. Olympia champion, ‘The Shadow’ earned a reputation for his granite conditioning and insane muscle mass. Through hardcore training methods inspired by the late Arthur Jones and Mike Mentzer, Yates achieved an extraordinary physique that ultimately led to his legendary status within the sport.
Dorian Yates has never wavered from his fitness principles, even in retirement. Instead, he continues to focus on maintaining his health and well-being through diet, exercise, and other unorthodox methods, such as going on spiritual journeys using Ayahuasca.

In a recent Instagram post, Yates brought fans up to speed on his progress at his seven-week check-in, offering a glimpse into his physiotherapy sessions. He anticipates being able to walk normally again in four or five weeks.
“As promised, here’s a little update with my progress.”
“I had my 7 week check in this week with my surgeon and he’s really happy with my progress which is great! I think another 4-5 weeks and I’ll be more or less back to normal 🙏”
He’s also working on regaining his balance.
“So here working with my physio on my rehab and that’s been my focus the last few weeks, getting back to walking normally and trying to bring my balance back” Dorian shared.
“I’ll do another update soon but it should be smooth sailing 💪”
Even while recovering from hip replacement surgery, Dorian Yates is still providing his tried-and-true workout tips to his followers. Recently, he broke down a time-efficient workout for the delts that takes just 20 minutes and only seven intense sets.
“Seven sets total. Do you feel like you should do some more like you need to do some more? Not at all, huh? It’s absolutely wasted. It’s dead, there’s nothing more to do,” Yates shared.
At 62, Dorian Yates shows no signs of slowing down, even when recovering from hip surgery. Despite the challenges he is facing throughout the healing process, Yates remains focused on his long-term health and fitness.
