Eddie Hall, one of the most celebrated Strongmen in the world, recently sat down with Rob Moore on his podcast to discuss his journey in Strongman and his transition to bodybuilding. During the one-and-a-half-hour feature, Hall touched on many topics, including his background in Strongman, the costs of competing, and how he revolutionized the sport. However, what seemed to be the most captivating aspect of the conversation was his story about consuming 20,000 calories in one day.

Eddie Hall was able to consume 20,000 calories in one day because his daily diet was not much less during that period. So, seeing that Eddie was in his prime, he thought it would be fun to add a few more calories and reach the mind-blowing total of 20,000 calories.

To accomplish this, Eddie Hall’s day of eating consisted of a Full English breakfast, many snacks, 0.5-kilogram steak, rice, pasta vegetables, chicken curry, bolognese with a kilogram of pasta, and ice cream on top of it.

“I did a 20,000 calorie day once, and I will never do it again… I would usually consume 12,500 to 15,000 calories in a day anyway when I was at my peak… At one point when I was in a really big bulking season, I would have a liter of ice cream after every single meal… Not the healthiest by all means.”

A day of eating like this obviously resulted in Eddie Hall spending more time in the toilet than usual. He decided never to repeat that mistake.

“The human body can only take so much and I found my limit that day”

Even though Eddie Hall had reached his limits, he was still unstoppable during that period. He won the 2017 World’s Strongest Man, but also became the first man to deadlift 500 kilograms (1,102.3 pounds) just one year prior. During the podcast with Rob Moore, Eddie revealed how he managed to accomplish everything.

“I believe that I brought a different angle to Strongman, and that is the world of recovery and investing in your body. I trained hard and I ate hard, but I believe that there were people that trained harder and ate better than me. But where they wouldn’t put the money and effort in is recovery.”

In addition to the considerable effort and time Eddie Hall spent in his recovery, he also revealed that being a strongman is quite costly. Many people don’t even think about that, but accounting for all aspects of the training and competing process, just one week of Eddie’s Strongman career came out to £800 ($968).

“£200 a week just for physiotherapy, sometimes more… Then you’ve got all the supplements. It’s expensive. I worked it out, with the food, the memberships, the travel, all that kind of thing, you have to spend about £800 a week just on you. So that is not paying the mortgage, not feeding the wife and kids.”

Following his boxing defeat against Hafthor Björnsson, Eddie Hall took some time to rest and decided that he wants to try out bodybuilding. As Eddie states, his debut should happen sometime around the end of 2024, but his training is already in full force. Eddie admits he isn’t familiar with Bodybuilding training yet, thus he has already sought the assistance of Jamie Christian-Johal, IFBB Pro, in order to learn more about the sport.
